From Singapore (Silk Air) and several Indonesian towns by plane to Manado,
from there by plane or bus to Gorontalo (see my Gorontalo page) and on by boat,

From Kuala Lumpur (Air Asia) to Makassar/Ujung Padang and from there by plane to Gorontalo then by boat, or by bus to Rantepao (Tana Toraja) and Ampana, then by boat.
Lion Air flyes from different Indonesian airports (Makassar, Surabaya,Jakarta) to Manado, Gorontalo, Poso and Luwuk.
From Luwuk and Poso to Ampana by bus, then boat.
From Tawau, Malaysia by speedboat to Nunuakan (Kalimantan), then with Pelni boat to Toli Toli (alternativ to Pantoloan/Palu and by bus to Ampana) and with Kijang (shared taxi) to Gorontalo and from there by boat (Update: Pelni seems to run from Nunuakan only to Pare Pare / Makassar at the moment).

It is not easy getting to the Togians from either the south or the north. A lot of patience is required, but ultimately that patience is rewarded. Ferries leave from Ampana to Wakai almost daily and while the distance doesn't seem far in kilometers, it takes 4 to 6 hours. Some of these ferries then head to Gorontalo in the north with stops at Kadidiri and Katupat along the way. But again patience is required because unloading at Wakai can take more than an hour. Just relax and enjoy the chaos at the dock, then take in more of the beautiful scenery. Once in the Togians, it is fairly easy to charter boats for day trips. Check schedules carefully for return - not all Gorontalo-Ampana bound ferries stop at Katupat so you may be relying on a small outrigger to get you to Wakai and these will only go if weather permits. We were lucky that the morning we needed to leave for Wakai was relatively calm, and een though the outrigger felt a little unsafe in the open ocean, once the driver took us into the channels between islands, it was a beautiful morning cruise.
