Bandung Things to Do

  • Volcano

Visited Bandung in early March 2008. The weather in this town is cooling which sits about 700m above sea level. Went on a day trip to Gunung Tangkuban Perahu(also known as the Mountain of the Overturned Boat). If you are into volcanoes and trekking then this is closest you can get to a live volcano. When you are here, do visit the hot springs(a...

  • Hot Springs

It's actually a resort...u can choose to stay here or just take a one day trip since it's also at the same area as Tangkuban Parahu. There's a few ponds here where u can swim or just dip in your feet into the hot water. The place is is quite busy on weekends. The place is really well kept. Entrance is fee is about Rp14,000 each.

I have to be frank...I don't eat meat...therefore, there's no way I would this dish known as Buntut Bakar (grilled ox tail). However, my little brother whose a big fan of ox tail said its very tasty. This one is grilled and served with spicy sauce. The portion was quite big...I believe it's enough for two people.

  • Factory outlet too

The Summit, located at Jl. Riau...just like other factory outlet sells the same thing. However, it's still worth the visit because different factory outlets may have different brands, quality and also style. Some may be very up to date...some may not. So, it's best to browse around.

Bandung is more cultured than Jakarta. They are generally more friendly and polite. Maybe that's because of their daily life that's not as stressful as Jakarta. Tipping is not necessary, but it would be greatly appreciated by the waiters as they dont have big salary.

Bandung Tourist Traps

  • Costly trishaws...

Don't take trishaws unless you really have to. A really short trip I had with my mum cost us Rp50,000 (we can actually have 2 trips on Blue Bird with that). Then, they will sort of purposely take you round n round...finally...they'll charged you with whatever rates they like.

  • Beware of cabbies...

I supposed it's kinda common for cabbies/taxis to charge more...especially when they noticed that you're no locals. There're so many cabs around Bandung...there's not problem at all getting around there. The only problem is almost all of these cabbies (except Blue Bird) don't use meter...they simply charge you whatever they want. So, a trip that...

Any type of bag as long as it is not bothersome to carry around. Simple summer clothes. The weather is pleasant. Not too hot and not too cold but it does get slightly cold at night. Charcoal pills. Batteries. Most important as certain places of attractions don't sell them. Good pair of shoes if you want to walk around Bandung.
