gunung-kombang-southcoast-eastjava by RoyJava At Ngliyep Beach you can walk up the rocky mountain and, feel the violence of the waves lashing the shore. All is vibrating ... quavering! Up on the mountain there is a small makam, kuburan (cemetry Gunung Kombang). It is not known by tourists. It is the exact place where the Labuhan Ceremony reaches its peak. Here a goat's head is thrown into the Indian Ocean to tune the Goddess of the Indian Ocean's favour. The Gunung Kombang is known in West-Java, too, and transmits the myth of the rising of the famous Majapahit Kingdom. Raden Susuruh is believed to have founded the Majapahit Empire, instructed by the seer Cimara Tunggal (corresponding with Ratu Kidul). A lot of legendary Kings got involved with this myth, like Raden Wijaya and Joyoboyo. Gunung Kombang is assigned to Joyoboyo ... Leave a Comment

mountain-view-batu-eastjava by RoyJava I know! Most of travelling the trip you do can be exhausted and, a nap in train, airplane, the car/bus/van will take you away in an easy way. When hiking the area of Batu - Malang just stay awake! Enjoy the well-known, breath-taking views of the overgrowing hill sides and the lusty vegetation there. The way how people grow their food in this way is absolutely admirable ... Leave a Comment

balekambang-southcoast-eastjava by RoyJava Pantai Balekambang is the spot of an impressive, picturesque Hindu Temple. It's located on the rocky islet of Pulau Wisanggeni, about 75 km from Batu via Malang. Also reachable on foot from Sujono village. The Balinese-stylish temple is a splendid example of peaceful beauty, extraordinary nature and cultural architecture, you can reach by a bridge ... Although you'll see people wading the sea around the islet swimming can be dangerous, so better be careful and ask the locals for a safe place to swim! Leave a Comment

sculpture-singosari-eastjava by RoyJava Some very old sculptures you can find in the temple-complexes. A lot of statues disappeared long ago to museums in Holland, including the famous renowned Prajnaparamita image. A sculpture of the Shaivite teacher Agastya is found in the yard of Candi Singosari though, Javanese say it is the famous monarch King Kertanegara. He is the same who mortified Kublai Khan's emissaries by horrible things, an act which precipitated the launching of 1000 Mongol troop ships against Java in 1293 ... Leave a Comment

southcoast-eastjava by RoyJava The Indian Ocean is the third-largest body of water in the world, covering about 20% of the Earth's water surface. Sea-level can change in one second up to over 10 metres. That is the scientific part of the Indian Ocean. Its surface is dominated by counterclockwise gyre (broad, circular system of currents) in the Southern Indian Ocean, an experience a lot of humans cannot retell anymore,... some can! The horror of the Indian Ocean. The JAVA TRENCH (7,725 km deep!), also called Sunda Double Trench, is located generally 190 miles (305 km) off the South-Western coasts of the islands of Sumatra and Java, Indonesia. The South-Sea Spirit-queen, Ratu Kidul, has been crowned to the absolute Ruler of the Indian Ocean,... the spiritual heart of the Indian Ocean ... (link is in Dutch!) Leave a Comment

ngliyep-beach-southcoast-eastjava by RoyJava The Ngliyep Beach, Southern of Batu - Malang, is the upmost popular beach for the Javanese locals. It is well-known for its Labuhan Ceremony and, for its many faces. The huge, magnificent rocky islands, the dense coastal forests, and the wonderful, quiet beach with white sand and clear water. Here families have a picnic, kids splashing around in the water, and youths fishing for tropical fishes. Sounds great huh!?! However, could you have a nice snorkel, hearing the violence of the smashing, and crushing waves in the close neighbourhood ??? Leave a Comment

singosari-eastjava by RoyJava You can't miss the 2 magnificent 3.8m. tall "raksasa" guardian statues when entering the Singosari complex. These are the Buta's or Danawa's, literally the Titans/Giants out of fables and myths. One is partly buried, stands 200 m away where a gate may have stood ... The legend goes, that when one of the giant Raksasa has vanished into the ground the Ratu Adil (Day of Justice) will come... it is like the Doom's Day or Apocalypse ... Leave a Comment
