I was lucky enough to go Candi Singosari. This temple is also known as Ken Dedes Temple which was founded in honour to King Kertanegara, the last king of Singosari dynasty who died in 1292 AD. It was erected in 1300 AD. The nice about this temple is that its situated amongst the house in Singosari district just norh of Malang and down the road from the temple is a old swimming pool known as Ken Dedes. Leave a Comment Directions: Its 9km north of Malang in Singosari District

This is another beautiful temple that I had the opportunity to visit when I went to Trawas. Its situated in the Prigen district in Malang Regency. I just loved the mountain scenary in the backgroud of the temple. There was a man working here and he was kind enough to let us in tell us all about the temple. Aparently the temple was restored as the roof was colapsing. Just like Candi Singosari this is also situated amongst the houses. There is just one entrance to the top of the temple as its surrounded by water. The ancient extrance to the temple still remains further to back of the exntrance to Candi JAwi. Leave a Comment

waterfall-cuban-rondo-batu by RoyJava About 3 km West of Batu is the excellent holiday resort Songgorito. Here you'll find the well-known hot springs. The road mounts the Gunung Panderman and is notorious for its hairpin bends. Find the small well-covered cleft with lusty vegetation where you can enjoy some breath-taking views. Have a picnic and go for a hike up to the 60 metres high Waterfall Cuban Rondo. It's wonderfully cool! candi-singosari-eastjava by RoyJava Right in Singosari Village, about 10 km North of Malang, the Cando Singosari Temple stands just 500 metres off the main Malang-Surabaya road. Local name is Candi Linggo and dedicated to Shiwa. This most imposing Shiwa Shrine was built around 1300 AD and left of the murderous Singosari Dynasty. In honour of Hindu and Buddhist priests who died with King Kertanegara in the bloody war against the Kingdom of Kediri. It is called a "cellar-temple" or "tower-temple" by archaeologists. The main constructure of the Temple was completed but, for some reason (time, finance, or civil catastrophe), the sculptors never finished their task. Only the top part has any ornamentation and the Kala-heads have been left strangely stark with smooth bulging cheeks and pop eyes. Most of the statues originally at Singosari now form the backbone of the world-famous Hindu-Javanese collection at Leiden Museum in Holland, including the renowned beautifully breath-taking Prajnaparamita image ... ngliyep-beach-eastjava by RoyJava Pantai Ngliyep (Ngliyep Beach) is a magnificent rocky beach with dense coastal forests, beautiful seascapes, and those (well-known from South-Java) violently giant waves. From Batu via Malang about 80 km you could stay at the camp-ground near the beach which is usually crowded with young campers. Ngliyep is nationally well-known for the celebration of the annual Labuhan religious ceremonies and rituals with a procession to Gunung Kombang where an offering of a goat's head is thrown into the ocean. For 5 days preceding this ceremony there are wayang kulit shows specially dedicated to Nyai Loro Kidul, mighty Goddess of the South Sea ... Leave a Comment

balekambang-eastjava by RoyJava The Balekambang Beach (literally "Floating Couch") is a beautiful beach with white sand and, with an impressive Hindu Temple nearby, located 57 km South of Malang. Here you can find the replica of the Temple in Tanah Lot, Bali. The two beaches noted for the annual Sea Festival are Ngliyep and Balekambang. Please keep in mind the dates mentioned in East Java's Calendar of Events. These parks, however, for all their beauty, are relatively unknown outside of East Java. When you visit these area's you may meet the individual local families who run the business there. No big hotels and no resorts yet bought up by corporate tourist giants ... Leave a Comment

pulau-sempu-eastjava by RoyJava From Batu you can go for the South, too, and experience the magnificent rocky beach, beautiful seascapes, and violently giant waves. Best places to go are Ngliyep, Balekambang and Pulau Sempu near Sendang Biru ... Pulau Sempu is a Nature Reserve of a 900 ha island South of East Java. On the island you'll find white beaches and dense tropical rainforest. Locals will tell you about the last Javan Tigers in the reserve. And about the special ceremonies to get the famous "Kayu Pelet" wood (a kind of flaming wood used for the handle of a kris, Javanese dagger or mystic blade of Indonesia) ... Leave a Comment

karang-bolong-eastjava by RoyJava When you visit Pulau Sempu near Sendangbiru you can go for a boat-trip on the Indian Ocean. This is an outrageous experience, when the weather is ok! The boat-trip will take about 3 hours and you may understand why the Javanese attached great value to the power of the Indian Ocean. The strong current is overwhelming, and see the Karang Bolong island (Rock formation with hole). The hole has been created by the forces of the waves and, it is impossible to sail through the gateway. Because the ocean suddenly could rise, when "the Queen isn't that willing" ... Leave a Comment

bathing-place-ken-dedes-singosari by RoyJava The legend of Queen Ken Dedes, it grapped me in a hard way. Numerous temple remains dating from the 13th century Kingdom of Singosari still can be seen in the Batu - Malang region. Included Candi Singosari ofcourse, as well the so called ancient "Bathing Place of Ken Dedes", a beautiful place with lusty vegetation. It is told the Sendang Dedes (Well of Dedes water) used to be a Garden of Eden (Taman Sari) to the Putri/Queen Ken Dedes and her court ladies. The Kedaton (Palace) was a place of beauty, pleasure, and ... mysteries. Still reports in local magazines around love to tell about these mysterious events around the bathing place ...
