We called it "travel", a minivan capacity of 8 persons. I was given at the middle back row seat. It was cramp. The "travel" departed on time, which is at 10pm, we were given a coupon for the free supper. Because of my exhaustion after the long trip, I was able to sleep through the trip and woke up when it stopped for an about 30 minutes for supper. The restaurant was clean. But supper at 2am? I ordered rawon and rice. It taste horrible. Drink was not included in that coupon, if you order other than black tea. Arrived at my door step at 5 am in the morning. The driver was a good driver, he drove steadily. If it is daylight, I will enjoy more of the view along the way.

Gejayana is the only train from Jakarta to Malang. I aboard from Madiun. Was late for about 4 hours during peak season of Idul Fitri. On the way to Malang, it passed and stopped in the station of Nganjuk, Baron. When we stopped in Kertosono, the sellers of food were allowed to aboard to offer their merchandise.Before arrived in Malang, it also passed Kediri, Tulungagung, Blitar. On the way the scenery was so beautiful, especially from Kediri to Blitar, where we can view Mount Kelud from afar. We also passed Brantas river, dam (i have no idea what's the name). When we are approaching Malang, Mt. Panderman can be viewed cleary too. Along the way paddy fields were like green carpet.

When approaching Batu via Malang you'll notice the number of directions.The back route is between Yogya and Banyuwangi and, passing through some beautiful country-side. Express minibuses can be arranged in Surabaya and trains run between Surabaya and Malang at least 6 times daily.
"Bis Malam Anugurah" (Jl. Suryani Anugurah, Malang) is a reputable company where buses leave frequently. Sawahan Station, on the corner of l. Sulawesi and Jl. Yulius Usman, Malang, is the minibus station. "Pattimura Bus station" (Jl. Yulius Usman and Jl. Halmahera, Malang) is a good colt station for a bemo-ride to the North of town of Malang an to/around Batu.
PS: ... enjoy the country and views when getting tyre trouble like we did!

It was an easy way to get to Malang by Train, take a train from Surabaya GUBENG train station, it would take two hours to reach Malang Train station
