    Sunset on Bromo (c) ukirsari

Fondest memory: When I was teenager, trekking to Bromo was always interesting. Imagine about desert storm, about camping site and eating together in one-single dish with friends always keep in memory. But now, since I am working, getting busy everyday, Bromo seems just a part of fantasy. 'Till one day, when my close friend asking me for a quick trekking to this beautiful mount. How? Just easy! Preparing a flight from Jakarta to Surabaya, then using his car to reach Probolinggo.

Fondest memory: Indonesian Muslim men whether the rich or the poor are allowed to marry 4 women in life. Wives work out and men could be lazy at home.

Men like have gatherings, chatting or looking at street vehicles and passengers. Lazybones' arbors are their bases for fooling around.

As I know, some tribes of Taiwanese aboriginal people have such kind of arbor as well.

Fondest memory: The kind guy on Mt. Bromo is aboriginal who walked long road to guide me through the dessert arriving the top of volcano. He was patient to lead me and often smiled.

The local horses are mini style, tame and mild. You should never be afraid. Behind him is the stairs up to the mount of volcano. He was waiting for me there till I went downstairs.

The experience is impressive like making a dream. TIP: 1 round 50,000 RP.

Favorite thing: when you do not want to be just one of a lot of tourists, than leave them drive down by their jeeps from the viewpoint to the crater. you walk down. it was one of my nicest treks to wander down trough so incredible often changing vegetation. unbelivable. and in the background always the bromo-vulcanos.

we startet walking down after everybody left and we had a "pop-mi"-soup at one of the numerous selling points at the viewpoint. you have to wander down the street you came up. than, lets say after 500metres (or maybe a little bit more) you ll find the path on the left side (best is to ask a local where it is. the trek is easy and will take you about 3h. we walked easy down to the crater, spent there some time and than were bak at our hotel on the craterrim just right before the breakfast-deadline at 10am.

take suncream with you! although its frosty before sunrise, the sun is burning your skin although it is not so hot in the morning hours. I wasent aware of it and catched a sunburn, damn

Fondest memory: walking down from the viewpoint, falling nearli down to the smoking hole

Favorite thing: You do not need a permit from the Park Office if you want to visit Mount Bromo.

For climbing Mount Semeru, you must have a permit which you can obtain from the office of the Park Operator:

    sign-bromo-eastjava

Favorite thing: When I red about the Sand Sea (Segara Tanpa Tepi) mystery and the allied link with the Majapahit Empire and the Javanese South-Sea Goddess, the Tenggerese Highlands became more mysterious. Especially the uncertain origins of the Tenggerese at East-Java (and the Orang Baduis at West-Java) made me studious ...

Fondest memory: Most of the people pay a Bromo-visit because of its magnificent, stunning sunrise. I guess most of them don't even think about the area, looking like the Moon. The contradictions are upmost interesting, rising as soon as you enter the Bromo region and, getting an absolutely unnatural feeling with sunrise. That zenith always stayed in my mind,... thanks to Mount Volcano Bromo, creating my thinking way!
