    Warm clothing in Jawa

    by Deng249 Written Dec 7, 2008
Sunrise on Penanjakan. Just look at our clothing!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: The temperature gets below 10 degree celcius at dawn. To those who intends to view Bromo at sunrise, it would be good to do layers or wear a good winter jacket, with gloves and beanie. For those who do not want to pack a lots of stuffs, the winter jacket is also available for rent at Mount Penanjakan at Rp 10,000.

Layers should be sufficient for the sleep the nite before.

For the trek across Lautan Pasir to Mount Bromo, bring a cap, bandana and sunglass. It's bright and dusty.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring a small bottle of sanitizer or wet wipes. The place is dusty so a sanitizer/wipes come is useful when you're out of the hotel/villa.

Photo Equipment: Extra battery, memory card and a tripod for the camera is a must.

Miscellaneous: The walk up to Mount Penanjakan from the jeep stop is about 10 - 15 mins. The trail is dark, so bring a torchlight.

    Freezing Cold At Tropical Morning

Luggage and bags: Starting from the principle that most people do the Ngadasari tour to climb the Bromo (so not the more difficult way by the Tosari- tour) and, planned a day trip. A backpack or a rucksack small size will do, and donot forget a bottle of water ...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Walking can be a great relief, though getting up in the middle of night to climb the Bromo it can be freezingly cold and windy. Wear some good walking/mountain/sport shoes, and take a warm jacket/sweater (best thing against the cold is a blanket borrowed from the motel/hotel, your beach-towel, or just a lot of sarungs, like the Tenggerese do) ... and a rain-coat when wet season.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun protection creme and lip balm when sun has arisen and you'll go back for descent. A cap/hat is great. Take your time and donot rush, you'll need your breath ...

Photo Equipment: Your favourite tested photo-equipment as usual, extra a telephoto lens, see link for some more tips ...

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Walking in the pitch darkness can be frustrated, so bring yourself an electric torch when leaving early in the morning. If not stay behind the person/guide with the torch or you may fall into a steep ditch.

Miscellaneous: Whichever route you take, the ideal time to visit Bromo would be during the dry season (April to November). In the wet season dawn and clouds are likely to arrive simultaneously so an early rise may not be worth the effort ... (I know, I know ... you've been warned)

Luggage and bags: A big backpack added with a small daily pack for trekking or hiking or horse riding.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Anything that make you warm in the early morning and late night, but keep you cool during mid-day [especially when you visit on summer].

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Tissue will necessary.

Photo Equipment: Beware with rechargeable battery, the extreme temperature make them so quick empty!

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Hiking or trekking gear for sure! Added with socks and balaclava [for your head] and bandana to minimize the dust and sandy air during horse riding. Also flipflop for relaxing after a full day trekking :)
