IKAT weaving is a warp-faced fabric and, in Indonesia the word for an ancient technique known in many parts of Asia which became, through wide usage, the generic term for all weavings of this type.
The art of weaving is highly developed, including the famous ikat method tourists love. The Tenggerese has developed a method of unique beautiful patterns, although not that well-known. Want to know more about this great art of weaving, try the Raffles book (The Golden Sword) who wrote about the Indonesian batik and ikat ...
What to buy: If you find some time head for the Tosari market, close to the Bromo Cottages. Maybe you'll get overwhelmed by "touristic garbage", though think this area is upmost unique and originally made by Tenggerese people. You won't be able to buy some products somewhere else! This Tenggerese IKAT is very soft, with beautiful colors and packed in small lovely bags.

Along the way home from Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, you can pay a visit the hawker stalls which sell many kind of fresh veggie. From carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and many many more. Meanwhile the mangoes can be found in national road Probolinggo to Surabaya. Cool!
What to buy: Tomatoes and mangoes [well, children and teenagers also selling edelweiss, but I think ... it's not good, since we can read "no picking for edelweiss" as one of the rule in visiting National Park of Bromo].
What to pay: About Rp 5,000 up
