  • totally nameless: Simple, friendly, social

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The funniest place to have a simple meal in Moni must be the small warung at the marketplace. Sadly it is only on marketdays it is open. You get only two dishes there (sometimes only one, when one batch is finnished off), Bakso (a sort of meatballsoup) and gadogado, but both was delicious made. It is a very rustic place, but friendly. I loved the mother and daughter manning the place, and had a good time with all the local guests talking about everything. If you spill someting on the ground, the cleaningpatrol are standing by. This day it was six hens and one troublesome cock on duty.

Favorite Dish: There is nothing but gadogado, bakso, water and tea on offer

  • Bintang Restaurant - Moni / Kelimutu (flores): A bad restaurant.

    by talbot75001 Updated Jul 10, 2010

We were very disappointed with this restaurant located in the village of Moni near Kelimutu volcano on Flores Island.
We ordered noodles. What was served was awfull instant noodles but 10 times the price of what it really costs. We had to wait for more than one hour to be served and when we tried to follow up, the owner answered aggressively that if we don`t want to wait we can just eat somewhere else but before that we have to pay !

Gardena restaurant in Labuan Bajo: Try hotplate in Gardena

by floresgirl Written May 24, 2007

Actually Flores island is not famous for its food. The best thing you can try here is grilled fish on the shore of ocean in fishing kampong. ))) But after a few weeks in Flores the foood in Gardena seems delicious especially its hotplate dishes. They cook tuna, steak, fish fillet and sometimes barracuda on the hotplate and serve it with nicely cooked vegetables, onions and tomatoes. The huge sizzling hotplate with a fresh fish costs only 2,5 USD!

    Favorite Dish: Tuna hotplate

in Camellia restaurant in Bajawa: springrolls and noodles

by floresgirl Written May 24, 2007

The owners of Camellia restaurant are very nice old Chinese couple. They still speak some Chinese and very aware of their roots. The interiour is very simple, the walls are only decorated with some timetables and unique huge map of Flores island (it's very hard to find any Flores map, even Periplus doesn't bother to publish the map of this island). They cook very quickly and serve very big bowls of food. The fried rice noodles are very good, as well as springrolls and even some green curries. For local people restaurant is quite expensive but it's considered the best in town so sometimes there's no tourista and all seats are occupied by locals.

    Favorite Dish: chicken fried noodle
