East Java
The capital city of East java is this city with this exotic name which excited my imagination since so long, when I was a kid, and, when I finally discovered Surabaya, I was a bit disappointed!!; no more pirates, big sailing boats, people walking in the streets wearing parangs, etc. . all that was dreams and I had to come back to reality!! There were Kijang cars (ah Kijang, I should have written about long before. . . ) in the streets, electronics shops, modern air-conditionned hotels. . . etc, etc. . I did not stay long in Surabaya and after one night here, we headed for the countryside with its coffee plantations, he rice fields, the volcanoes. . . and the beautiful landscapes of East Java in general.Warning: if distances do not look big on the maps the travelling time is very long:150 km does not mean two hours drive in Indonesia, it is much closer to 4 hours and it is good to plan...
