FRESH BOTTLED DRINKING WATER DONT BE WITHOUT IT

When travelling anywhere in the tropics or South East Asia..Due to the oppressive heat,.Always make sure that you have always sufficient freshh drinking water for your trip out and about..
When purchasing water make sure that the seal has not been broken on your purchase and the bottle "refilled" with unclean drinking water .This can cause you much discomfort as I unfortunately found out when it happened to me.
CHECK THE SCREW CAP TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SEAL IS UNBROKEN.

Notorious traffic jam in Jakarta

Beware that Jakarta traffic can be horrendous. Took an hour to get to a place which usually was 10 mnutes at the peak of the jam. So if you have an important appointment or going to airport, check with the hotel staff or local friend how much time to allocate.

Every disadvantage is an opportunity as street children will try to sell something even a song or wash your windscreen for a penny (a thousand rupiah).

Very hot at Borobudur

As there are no shade at all, it is essential to have adequate sun protection with sunscreen, cap and/or umbrella to protect yourself especially if susceptible to heat stroke or sun burn.

Similarly, if it rain, have an umbrella or raincoat and watch out for the slippery steps. Probably not safe if there is a lightning storm as you will be at highest point in the plains.

Safety at Mt. Bromo

Standing or sitting at the edge!

The rim of Mt. Bromo is crowded with many local tourists who are ready to celebrate with food and drinks over sunrise. There are no clear warning signs and so it is better to be safe than sorry from slipping down the edge of both sides. Stay clear from the edge.

Also when reaching Mt. Bromo in the dark, do not rush as the downhill slopes can be steep and there are ponies coming down the same path and do not run though in the surreal flat of the crater bottom as you never know what you may step on. Better to ride on a hand led pony and enjoy the experience of the approach.

Fire Mountain

Gunung Merapi (Fire Mountain) is one of the most active volcano of the world. Since 1998 it is most always steaming and erupting, throwing out lava and pyroclastic flows.
It can be seen from the Sheraton Hotel.
