The easiest way to get around Pontianak is by the small van-taxis that drive around. They're much much cheaper than the 4x4 taxis that a hotel might get for you and they are everywhere. All you have to do is stand on the sidewalk and wait, one will most probably turn up soon. The fares are cheap and the drivers reliably take you where you want to go. The taxis aren't necessarily the most comfortable thing (the back door keeps slamming open and the seats are very thin) but this doesn't matter much.
I didn't know exactly where to put this tip...
From Banjarmasin to Palanka raya we decided to take the bus. There are lots of different companys.
The busstation always seems to be a bit out of the center. And you will find the offices on the side of the road.
It is wise to buy your ticket in advance. And the best time appears to be the day before in the morning.
The places are numbered...
We paid for the trip from Banjarmasin to Palangka raya 28 000 IR pp. That was very cheap. You will pay more if you like a luxury autocar..with airco , and doors that don't have to be wrapped by plastic in case not to fall out...
-these busses are made for indonesian people , meaning , I didn't fit in. My legs are just to long.
-the road : even this is sort of the highway and one of the best we have seen in kalimantan ...it is a some parts really uncomfortable travelling.
-smoking is allowed on the bus. (choose yourself if it is a good or a bad thing)
-this was the dry season...in the picture you see the bridge they have builded over the fen. But in wet season the road isn't always as good as it was when we where there.
