With speed ferry to Pulau Saparua!

    by ullfri49 Updated Jun 21, 2015

The big amount of Transport is now going with big Speed Ferrys - comfortable, quick (and: life vests!) Here at photo the Ferry at harbour Tulehu.

While planning your tour please realize the All- Indonesian an local holidays: At sunday and at the monday after Easter (paskah) or after Pentecosta usually no ferry goes!

With Taxi from central Ambon Hotel it is nearly less than an hour- if going before 6 a`clock in the morning. Cause of hard traffic jam it my advive to start quite early so around 5 o`clock and than better wainting at the Haria harbour area.

For to by the ticket and for transport your baggage are there some harbour peoples, which will help you- please don`t forget to give them later some money for this. (My advice: If alone, you should speak bahasa Indonesia at Tourist Level).

The Ferry "Ekspres Bahari" comes on the morning from pulau Saparua to Tulehu (see the photo). After one or two hours ferry goes back to Saparua, pelabuhan (harbour) Haria again- running time so about only one hour- quite fast!
(By the way the skyline of ferry looks like in Capt`n Nemo`s - isn`t ?)

Comfort: For eat and drink are some friendly sellers of the near villages on board, you can by get much of that special dishes and sweets that is usual in Ambon.

    Problems:
    - Doors: Enshure your head going onbord or from board at the ladder.
    - Rolling: The Ferry is quite flat - so just at mid waves is is rolling stronger, special coming at stronger wind from the "lee" to "luv" between Saparua and Haruku island- be careful, dont go outside to reeling alone!!
    - Toilets: More than two and working- OK. But very, very little toiletrooms, at my traveltime without working light inside and door locks are not real working(!). So in case of trouble better try get help from near people to hold the door from outside...

Try traditional boat trip- with perahu in Amboina

    by ullfri49 Updated Nov 9, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

On of main transport in the Maluku area is over the sea and along the shore.

So If there is time and an the sea has no waves , so try to take little tour with the traditional Perahu! But don`t forget a guide- on must know the current of tides and ready for quick changing weather in the "Pulau Ebun" - the Island of haze and rain.

There is from my view no problem, the wooden outtrigger is very stable, maybe one must now and then look to waterline inside the perahu.

The only difficult are the sharp coral shells- so don`t forget sandals- see the photo.

Starting to Lease Islands is easy from Tulehu Harbor- see here at Photo.
Our Speedboat starts very quick away from the bridge the Jembatan Tulehu -
and we trust the captain to find the right way over the water around wind and weather.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Inside Ambon in special for short ways are the becak a good way.

It is cheap- for short ways so 2000 Rp - and makes it easy to go around.

But you should a little tell Bahasa Indonesia- most drivers are not so good in english.

    Going with Angkota (town Bus)

    by ullfri49 Updated Dec 25, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For exploring Ambon is a good way to take an Angkota (town Bus),
or for short distances in inner town with a becak.

It is usually not so difficult to drive with an Angkota, but it is recommended to drive together with a a indonesian friend or guide, cause it is difficult to find the directions without street map. It is important to know a little of Bahasa Indonesia.

Ambon town is quite difficult, cause it goes from center up to the three hillsides around.

From the hills one has a good view at the roofs and churchtowers of Ambon- see the Photo- and at good weather a good view over the bay to north coastside.

    Speed Boat in Ambon Bay

by djokodnet Written Feb 6, 2005

Ambon City center is located just in the midle of Ambon Bay, so you'll find so many traditional boats for rent. You can hire them for show you arround Ambon Bay for fishing. It is not adiviseable swimming in Ambon Bay, as it's deep and many ferries and boats come to the Ambon Seaport from other islands throughout Indonesian Achippelago.
