Luggage and bags: While you travel in Manado, always bring these four items in your bag : a bottle of WATER (none of the tap water here is safe, many restaurants use tap water for their ice cubes, so be careful), liquid HAND SANITIZER (you can buy it here, very cheap.Tap water on the rainy season will be mixed with the mud, many bank notes here are filthty and stinky), TISSUE paper (many toilets dont have their toilet paper), and UMBRELLA (october to april will be rainy season here.Even during dry season, the heat will be a headache for you.Manadonesse like to wear umbrella under the heat).
Bring SMALL PURSE with you to put in the filthy and stinky bank notes.Dont fold your dollar notes, they will be cheaper.:-))
You can not find the official map here easily but the local people will be helping you. They love to see the tourists.Just smile and enjoy your trip.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Other items will be the same things as the packing list for traveling to the tropical countries.BEACH GEARS and FLIP-FLOPS will be the top list. See my other packing tip).Manadonese isnt really conservative people. You can wear shorts or mini dress in public but wearing bikinis in public beaches when the local people around is not recommended.Wearing them at the hotels` beaches and pools will be ok. Bring formal dress if you have to go to some formal meetings, parties, or church service. The Manadonesse is known as `the people who really care of the way they dress'. The best dresses will be worn to the church. Wearing sandals and short to the church, family meetings, parties or formal meetings is inappropriate for the local people.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Dont forget your own EMERGENCY MEDICINES, especially for your digestive system.People eat hot and spicy food here, it will be a disaster when you have a sensitive stomach. If possible bring your ANTI MOSQUITOES LOTION.You can buy it here anywhere but you may find some difficulties to look for it when you cant speak Indonesian. There are times of DENGUE FEVER ENDEMIC here and have killed many children.
Photo Equipment: If you come here to dive, bring your UNDERWATER/WATERPROOF CAMERAS along with your other hoto eguipment.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Do not forget your SUNBLOCK, you may not find the good ones here.
Miscellaneous: People do not rush here,so leave your rushy metropolitan attitude and enjoy your time here :-))

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Whenever you want to travel to Manado (or Indonesia in general), bring a pair of flip flop with you. In case you couldnt find any before coming here, you may in any local shops. The local languange for it is 'slop suntung' (seh-lope soon-toong). It will be a best of choice of your foot gear whenever you want to go for some walk because the rain could be accepted any time. Any snickers will be good too but bring your dark colored ones, dirt is everywhere here. DO NOT WEAR YOUR LEATHER SHOES FOR A WALK. Humid and hot weather could cause unpleasant odor from your feet. For ladies, bring one pair of your high heels when you are expecting to attend some parties or any formal occasions (church service is included). You will be surprise to see how the local people dress up in a formal occasions. Wearing sandals or snickers to the parties, formal meetings, or church is considered as an inappropriate way there. High heel sandals would be considered as the formal ones.
