GENERAL POINTS FOR INDONESIA'S PACKING LIST

by pangtidor

Bring the good and strong bags for the check in luggages, with the name-address in-out of the bag, and locked securely. Surfing boards should be placed within the good carrying case/bag.Nobody will be responsible for any loss or damage here. Water proof bags will be convinient or wrap your bags with the plastic wrapper if you have the wrapper service in your homecountry's airport.I have seen all the baggages was carried under the rain without any cover by the local airlines many times. The check in baggage will be allowed within 25-30 kgs for domestic flights here. You may bring 'as many as you can carry' for the hand carry bags. It is a tropical country so bring the light and cotton clothes. For the backpackers: leave all your white clothes and leathers. You may bring a light jacket for your flights (no blanket will be available on board). Bring the comfortable shoes and flip flop. Hats...

BRING THESE FOR YOUR HEALTH

by pangtidor

Bring these drugs:antidiarrhea, anaelgesic, antipyretic, and antihistamine. You may get them in Indonesia's pharmacies too. Look for APOTIK/APOTEK. For over the counter drugs in Indonesia, you may get NEW DIATABS for antidiarrhea, CTM or Pyriton for antihistamine, NEURALGIN for anaelgesic, and Paracetamol/Bodrex/Paramex for the fever. Get them if you dont have any other complicated diseases. During the rainy season, you have to take extra attention for malaria and dengue fever.Food and water are not safe mostly so you may get diarrhea and pollen-dust-dirt-gas fumes may cause some allergy. They will charge the foreigners more in the hospital. For the backpackers, bring hand sanitizer liquid/wet tissue, mosquito repellent, mineral water and tissues anywhere. These are the good ones which are available in Indonesia : AUTAN for antimosquito lotion, DETOL/BAGUS for hand sanitizer, DETOL/...

A Few Things to Consider

by jungles

1. A backpack is the only practical way to get around Indonesia if you're planning to travel around at all.2. If you are staying in budget losmen, you might want to consider carrying a small fan. While usually provided, there were a few times when our fan was a lifesaver. On the other hand, it can really weigh your pack down. Maybe just a hand-held, battery-powered one is best. 3. Combination luggage locks (see my Warnings or Dangers tip) 1.Poncho or other raingear.2. Sarongs are very useful and widely available. They can be used to carry stuff, to lie on at the beach, to cover up when walking to and from the beach or to and from a communal shower, or as a top sheet in budget hotels that have only bottom sheets on the bed. In Bali you must wear a sarong to enter Hindu temples.3. If you are female and want to enter a mosque, bring a scarf or something to cover your head.4. Sandals. Flip...

Bring Earplugs!!!

by tna

Make sure you bring earplugs with you on your trip to Indonesia because you are bound to - at some point - be trying to sleep through the Muslim calls to prayer. These prayers over loud speakers can sound lovely when listened to drifting through the evening air as you sit on the rooftop looking over the city, but when you are trying to sleep off a long busy day touristing, the prayers at 4, 5, and 6 in the morning can penetrate the mind, causing great risks to your sanity the next day. Perhaps that is what the prayers were for: "Alah, grant these sleeping people earplugs!"

Do not forget!

by Nicola2004

Especially if you're going to be backpacking through the country sticking to budget accomodation/lots of public transport and ferries I recommend to bring a pack of desinfection tissues for your hands! Yes i'm serious! While travelling you may have to use public bathrooms which DO NOT have a basin plus most public bathrooms definetly harbor some nasty bacterias! You can try the water buckets next to the toilets but you almost may as well put your hands into the toilet itself then ;-) Well take the desinfection tissues along especially if you're travelling long distances. For 2 days I wasn't able to wash my hands during my bus trip... and i ended up in hospital with a nasty disease.... .At best bring some broad spectrum antibiotics (just in case), a pack of panadol, ear plugs (otherwise the muezzin will wake u up at 3.30 in the morning with his prayer call in muslim areas), something...

Cotton

by sarijayne

Make sure your luggage is slash proof and locked. Tie something bright that you will instantly recognize to the handle. Don't bring to many small bags that may be easy to lose track of at the chaotic airport arrivals. Personally I prefer to wear jeans. But most may find then a little uncomftable with the humidity. Cotton is the way to go. Cotton breathes well & washes & drys easy. Toilet paper isnt avalible in all loo's so keep a small suply on you. Toilet paper can be readily purchased however so just bring enough to get you through an emergency situation & restock. Any regular medications & a doctors letter to go with them. ( saves a lot of hassle ) Insect repellent. I swear mosquito's prefer white skin! Tampons aren't readily avalible so bring a good suply. Film with a high ASA 200 & above is good due to low light from pollution in Jakarta & other big cities.

Packing List

Use luggage that can be locked. Travelling with bags and suitcases that are not locked is not advisable. Never leave your luggage unattended in a public place. Be current with your vaccinations against common intestinal problems such as cholera, dysentery, typhus/paratyphus. Diarrhea pills are a must if you plan to eat in the cheaper road stalls. Anti-malaria pills are important if you are going to swampy/forest areas. Urban areas have dengue fever problems sometimes. Only 35 mm colour print film is available in every little town that has a photo-processing store. Slide/Positive film and other film sizes usually are much harder to find. They can be found mostly on specialty photography stores. 8 mm video is common. MiniDV, Hi8 and Digital8 tapes are more difficult but not impossible to find. Normal VHS types are common in larger cities but VHS-C or S-VHS can only be found in specialty...

Quality Mosquito Repellent is Good

by lmkluque

The weather is hot and humid and light weight clothes such as cotton would be the best to bring. Of course, the big hotels have swimming pools so bring a suit, because it is always hot, even when it rains! Bring your own prescriptions and a high grade mosquito repellent, but anything else can be purchased here. Throughout the residential areas you can hear the call of the hawkers. Even in the Kampung for the blind, the hawkers offer their product. If there is a food product from your country that you can't live without, bring it with you. Some things are not easy to find. I wanted to make chicken burritos and couldn't find a few of the ingredients.
