Sate!: Barbecued Meat!

by marimar_72

You can find the Sate (Satay) in any resturant in Indonesia,it`s the local`s dish.it can be either made of meat(mutton)or chicken(it`s called Sate Ayam inBahasa Indonesian).you can find cheap or expensive Satay, depends on where you are having it! It is marinated and then barbecued, and served with white rice and peanut butter sauce, and of course hot chili sauce!!!

Local Food: Local Food.

by kiwi

My sister-in-law and her staff, all Indonesians, like to eat the food this guy brings around. It's instant, cheap and they say delicious. However this wouldn't be allowed in my country as health laws would prohibit this kind of food distribution. Traditional rice and meat dishes, served from the top section of the cart, and underneath sliced pineapples to whet the appetite!

Fish market: Dont miss some local refresment

by Glorija

If you wanna try something tasteful from local perspective try Fish Market in Pangandaran. Choose what you want to eat and the friendly staff who ussualy dont speak no english make it for you immediately. With smiles on their faces. And unless you really dont have a strange taste try not to order their ice tea. Very ... not European taste!

If you want to experience fabulous and very tasty dinner you must try the restaurant in the center of Senggigi. While you eat a group of four people sing to you and play on a guitar. Must say - very romantic. On the picture!

Padang Restaurants: Warning...

by travelqueen7

Beware of a Padang restaurant. The concept is a great idea, they serve you everything on the menu in bowls of 2 items per bowl. For example 2 eggs in one bowl 2 pieces of chicken in one bowl. Then when you are finish they count what was taken from the bowls and thats how they come up with your bill. The food is very very cheap but heres where you have to beware, they cook the food in the early mornings and sevre it the rest of the day sitting out in the open. So when you're not told about this until you have eaten something imagine what happens to you the next day. Can't say I never told you.... proceed with caution.

Hotel Buffets: Buffet, the way to go!

by lmkluque

Can't name just one. I ate at quite a few restaurants, most of them were connected to large hotels. Each hotel offered at least one buffet full of the most delicious Indonesian food I've ever eaten.Indonesia is known as the 'Spice Islands' and the Indonesians are experts at using each spice to create fantastic flavors. Gado-Gado--steamed vegetables served with a spicy peanut sauce, Sambal Udong--prawns in chili sauce, Mei Goreng--fried noodles, Nasi Goreng--fried rice, Ikan Goreng--fried fish, Ayam Curry--curried chicken, Rendang--beef in a coconut chili sauce, Soto Ayam--chicken soup, and of course, Satay--kabobs of grilled chicken served with a spicy peanut sauce.
