Melati at Kuta Lomok! It's...

by nickan

Melati at Kuta Lomok! It's cheap, small, plastic chairs, no desserts- not at all fancy! You go there mainly for of the food. But the family who have the place is nice, the prices are very nice. Fried Chicken! If you go to Kuta,Lombok You have to try the chicken. This was the best (and cheapest) meal we had.I tried the noodels too, I didn't know they could taste that good.

All restaurants in Galleria in Nusa Dua: Watch out for discount

by Winnie_Lowe

I went to Bali in April 2003 and it's still dead because of the bomb. So restaurants are very desperate. At dinner time, they hand out 40% off discount card and some offer free wine so watch out for these!Restaurants under this complex is not cheap at all. 2 adults 1 chlid - 1 main course and 1 juice per person costs us US$35(after discount). There is no not-spicy local food so watch out if you can't eat spicy food.

Don't miss the durian.

by EricLe_Rouge

Be adventurous when trying this. The locals call it "The King of Fruits". Controversial for its smell, this thorny football-size fruit fetches a very high price. Its flesh defies all description. You'll just have to taste it!From the first taste, you will either love it or hate it for the rest of your life because some may find the strong smell repulsive. A good durian is a durian that ripens and falls off its tree. Opening the durian requires some skill as well as experience. The creamy yellow flesh of the durian is best eaten with steamed glutinous rice and fresh coconut milk. Though most people prefer to eat the sweet flesh just as it is. A word of warning though, durians are very heaty. Eat way too much and you'll most probably end up with a fever.

Padang food in Sumatra.

by EricLe_Rouge

Padang food is the spiciest in all of Indonesia. Little has been done to compromise the chilli-heat, except for the white rice that (tries to) counterbalance the assertive flavours.Besides its acclaimed spiciness, Padang food is great. More common dishes are fried fish, chilli eggs or eggs in coconut milk, fresh vegetables in coconut sauce, beef rendang, grilled chicken...No need for refrigeration: as the heavily-spiced beef rendang can be kept for 3 or 4 days, it is said that years ago the Minangkabau traders of Sumatra would carry it along their long trips through the jungle and eat it with lontong (steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves). Padang Food is famous for gulai masin kepala ikan (Padang fish head curry), ayam panggang singgang (charcoal grilled chicken with spicy sauce), sotong goreng tepung ( deep fried crispy squid), goreng kacang panjang, (sauteed long beans with sambal...

Don't miss the gado gado!

by EricLe_Rouge

This Indonesian favourite consists of a mixture of raw and slightly cooked vegetables served with a spicy peanut sauce made with hot chiles and coconut milk. Sometimes the term "gado gado" refers only to the spicy sauce, which is used as a condiment with rice and various vegetable dishes.

Sao Wisata Resort: Is Anybody There?

by iwent

Since we were the only guests, all meals were specially prepared for us. In the morning we told the cook what we would like to eat. One of the staff went to the local market to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and anything else that was needed. Sometimes we went with the cook to the market, as you can see in the second photo. One of the staff was a fisherman, who went out to sea at night. In the morning he proudly showed his catch. He also invited us to come fishing with him. I did not fancy the idea because his boat was really tiny. My husband didn't join him either. He didn't want me to stay behind alone, he said, or was it an excuse not to go either?

Dodik Warung.: The best noodle soup in town!

by Bill_Steg

Very good, fresh food! Sometimes when choosing a dish from the menu it's not available 'course Dodik could not buy the fresh ingredients on the market that morning......! So you just choose something else! My favourite at Dodik Warung is the noodle soup, it comes traditionally with an egg (RP. 5000). But you can order it with chicken instead (RP. 6000).

Wayan & Friends.: Wayan & Friends. It's located...

by Bill_Steg

Wayan & Friends. It's located on Jalan Padma Legian, Legian. For bookings Ph.: (0361) 761024 and say Bill Sayang sent you and you are to have table 1 or 2 for the best view! Prices are very reasonable, the aforementioned 'Steak Pappaloulou' is Rp. 37.500 (October2001). On my last visit to Indonesia I stayed on Bali and found an incredible restaurant called Wayan & Friends. It's located on Jalan Padma Legian, Legian. The food is local as well as international, with the best steak in the whole of Asia. My favorite is 'Steak Pappaloulou' especially nice if you have been in Asia a while and are dying for a steak. Of course this is not the only food on the menu.

Ibunda Hotel Familia Restaurant: Medan

by iwent

This restaurant is next to Ibunda Hotel. When you're staying there you'll get a breakfast voucher for this restaurant. They only have Indonesian breakfast: Nasi Goreng (fried rice). It's an acquired taste early in the morning, but you'll soon get the hang of it.

Rujak

by Sharrie

Rujak - tropical fruits like papaya, pineapple, jambu air, bangkwang, unripe mango & others sliced into thin pieces & served with a sweet & spicy sauce (v. hot) made from Gula Melaka, peanuts & mango. One of my most favorite "must eat" in Medan. For those unaccustomed to street vendors, be prepared for stomach upsets.
