Chez Papa: French crusine in JB

    by lilylee68 Written Jun 21, 2010
    Foie gras
    1 more image

Whenever I go to JB, I would make a reservation at Chez Papa for our dinner. Very cosy and nice ambience - truly french cuisine. Located near to Pelangi Plaza in JB. Remember to make a reservation and they only serve dinner.
    Tel : + 607-3334988
    Mobile : + 6019-7504988
    Fax : + 607-2373888
    Email : muller@pc.jaring.my

Favorite Dish: We love the foie gras - it melted in our mouth and the port wine sauce was simply heavenly. The butter roasted escargots were simply gratifying - rich butter smell. We would also try the wide variety of cocktail available. There is always something new on the daily menu = try it out.

On your way back from Rembang Island, stop over at the local Kelong to try the seafood which is cheap and good. Dont forget to try Gong Gong, a local sea shell which is only available in the Riau Islands.

Food Court at Batu Ampar Ferry Terminal

Food court at Batu Ampar ferry terminal, Batam
    2 more images

There is a food court just next to the Batu Ampar ferry terminal just next to Nagoya (main town of Batam), where there are regular ferries to Singapore (about 45 minutes one way). If you are taking the ferries (Wave Master) and are hungry, this food court offers a variety of local Malay and Chinese food, as well as drinks. You can relax here and wait for your ferry as well.

As I was here in November 2008, this food court was relatively new.

Lingga Seafood 933: good enough for my palate

    by summer77 Written Oct 19, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located in the food street of Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre, this 'zi-char' stall is comparative to our local fare. Had HK-style steamed garoupa (good but fish tad small), cereal prawns (yum!), salted veg soup (fishballs & sliced fishcakes within?) and chili (yes) & butter (no) crab. By SG standards, it's definitely not expensive but by Batam standards, 50 cents for a bowl of rice? Hmm... anyway since we saved S$20 2-way going to the famous Golden Prawn, it's worth it..!

    Melati Coffee House: Glorious Food

by danlisha Updated May 21, 2008

a mixed menu of local, western and asian flare. Affordable, sufficient portion of food, and absolutely delicious. all of us were simply craving for more after we had our first lunch there.. let me see.. we had the fried seafood noodles, seafood-tomato-base pasta, pizza, desserts, etc..

even for breakfast, we were simply spoilt for choices that we had to have everything.. not that we were gluttons but the food is delicious.

Favorite Dish: if spicy food is our thing, try my absolute favorite gado-gado.. it is mixed vegetables that comes with spicy peanut sauce.. fantastic! because back home, we don't usually have them this spicy.. this is so addictive that i had to ask for extra sauce! try it..

Kelong Seafood Restaurant: Seafood on the Sea

As the name suggest, it a seafood restaurant literally on the sea. A wooden structure built so close to the sea that it can get pretty cold during dinner. Dinner came in a large variety but while enjoying the food, do enjoy the atmosphere. The coldness of the wind, the crashing of the waves, the smell of the salty sea, etc.

Our dinner was eventful. The service and food was great. Plus, we managed to sneak a birthday surprise too! Because a free birthday cake, candles and the whole restaurant staff singing is definitely a shocker to the birthday girl! Plus the buggy ride back, she was pleased..

If you have signed up those 1-Day Batam trip with tour agencies, most likely they will bring you to the famous Golden Prawn 555/ 933 Seafood restaurant. It is a restaurant built on stilts - "Kelong Style". We ordered oysters, locust prawns, calamari and chilli crab. All at a reasonable price for around $40 Sing. dollars.

    Avocado Drink with Chocolate

I ordered fish and chips, together with my favourite avocado drink with chocolate. Do try the avocado drink if you are in Batam, think it should be found in many of the restaurants there. It tastes really really good. My husband ordered steak and iced coffee. Other than western dishes, the restaurant serves local fares too at very affordable price.

You can eat very fresh, nice and seafood at this huge and popular seafood restaurant at Batam. Try the seafood with hot spicy chilli or black pepper and it will definitely wet your appetite. Others include local fishes, prawns, scallops, mussels, shellfishes etc etc. The price is also very reasonable and the surrounding is very nice and relaxing.

More photographs are at part 2 of this tip, and photos of the live seafood tanks of this restaurant are at the travelogue section of this VT page.

    A&W: A&W Fastfood Restaurant

    by y_lyn Updated Feb 8, 2008

This restaurant had long extinct from Singapore. We had our lunch here before heading to the spa. I ordered the beef sausage bun (used to call it "corney dog") with curly fries and root beer. The bun was too dry and tough for my liking. My friends ordered the fried chicken wings and they didn't look appetizing as well. I only enjoyed eating the curly fries.

The Nagoya Food Court is a huge and popular open-air place where there are lots of local food (Malay food, Chinese food, beer and drinks) being sold. This place is usually crowded at night, and there is even a stage with performances. It is conveniently located just behind the Center Point shopping centre and Farmosa hotel near to the main road Jalan Imam Bonjoi at Nagoya town.
