Golden Prawn 933 Restaurant & Seafood: Fresh Seafood!

by DarkRay Written Apr 23, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Golden Prawn 933 Restaurant & Seafood

First and foremost, let me start by saying that this was not our first choice of seafood restaurant. We had actually asked a few locals and they had originally recommended us to A1 Seafood. Somehow, after arranging for transport to the place at our hotel's conceirge, they took us to this place instead. My guess is that they probably pay our hotel some sort of commission for this!

Anyhow, our driver explain that the restaurants are about the same standard and are in fact just next to each other! So we tried it.

It was an interesting seafood restaurant in which the seafood were reared in the adjacent pond and then hauled into various tanks for its patrons to choose.

The verdict of my friends and I is that while the food's actually reasonably good, it actually seem expensive (at about S$18 per person) considering where we were. The seafood we ordered were also quite tiny. That is, instead of a few pieces of large juicy pieces of seafood, we get many pieces of small tiny bits.

To be fair, the seafood tasted very fresh. But, a lot of prawns for example traslates to a lot of troublesome peeling of shells. The food we ordered include black pepper crab, chilli crab, drunken prawns, sweet & sour fish, and vegetables.

Favorite Dish: My friends like the chilli crab, while I personally like the black pepper crab more.

    McDonald's: Fast Food Restaurant Again

by DarkRay Written Mar 27, 2005

    McDonald's

For those not used to the local Indonesian food for whatever reason, please note that McDonald's are almost as easily available as KFC in Batam, selling the same standard McDonald's fare that are found in other Asian countries. The prices of the fare found here is also not really that much cheaper than in countries such as Malaysia or even Singapore.

Please note that the price shown on the board is not the final price, as there is another 10% tax levied on that displayed amount.

The Nagoya Food Court is a huge and popular open-air place where there are lots of local food (Malay food, Chinese food, beer and drinks) being sold. This place is usually crowded at night, and there is even a stage with performances. It is conveniently located just behind the Center Point shopping centre and Farmosa hotel near to the main road Jalan Imam Bonjoi at Nagoya town.

Seafood restaurants at the southern islands

    Seafood restaurant at Batam, Indonesia

If you venture into the islands south of Batam Island (e.g. Pulau Sekikir, Pulau Rempang & Pulau Galang) via the bridges which connect them together, please check out the seafood restaurants here which are located on traditional wooden houses which jut out to the sea. The seafood here is cheap, tasty and you should try the coconut as well.

I like the ambience in this restaurant. The space is big and my daughter had the whole world to herself, running errends.
We paid IDR 217800 (USD 24) for lunch for 7 adults and 3 kids, which is cheap by any standards.
AND THE FOOD WAS YUMMY NO DOUBTS.

    Pondok Kelapa Restuarant, Batam

This restuarant is huge and is of local Indonesian architecture (see photos) which is located at Nagoya, the biggest town at Batam Island. It serves good Indonesian food at a reasonable price, and there is nice outdoor landscape for those who want to dine outdoors especially at night.

  • Rezeki seafood restuarant: Best and Worst seafood restuarant

by sairusi Updated Mar 9, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Tried Rezeki restuarant in batu besar. Most Taxi drivers would know. It probably isn't the cheapest seafood restuarant you can find in batam, but the food there was fantastic and resonably priced. There was a young chap David. Very good and honest recommendation.

Ambience there wasn't as good as what every taxi driver recommend ( Golden Prawn 933).
But who cares as long as u get good food, good service & good price.

I wondered why every taxi driver in batam would recommend Golden Prawn 933 till I finally tried for curiosity's sake. Curiosity kills the cat! The service is bad, food is worse. Price is about 80% more costly than at Rezeki! I don't mind paying more for ambience and good food. But it just sucks big time! Lots of Mosquito, Lots of people singing off key like in karaoke. 5 "attitude problem" waitress standing behind me seems so very eager to clear my table even though it was an off-peak with lots of empty table. Definitely a 5 stars tourist rip-off place. No wonder the boss is opening a new hotel beside it.

Hope this will help if u wonder why everyone recommend u to Golden Prawn 933.

Delicious sea food are the biggest attractions of Batam. Prawns, crabs, lobsters, shellfish are cooked in the different styles. Gong-gong is one of the local dish which you may want to try. There are many restaurants ready to serve you a sea food in the plate. Try some Indonesian dishes and I bet you won’t forget the delacacy in your lifetime.

    Padang food facing Panbil Mall

by rajitravel Updated Mar 28, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Padang food is available here and I'd say it's still the best for the hungry

Favorite Dish: As customary for padang style, all dishes are placed on the table and you need pay only for what you eat. We spent about 74,000 rupiahs for a hearty meal for four. That's about US$5.

    Chilled tea for every meal

If you're on the streets and not sure about the cleanliness, you can be safe to make this the
drink to go with either your meal or simply to quench that thirst.

Originating from Java, you can get Tehbotol Sosro anywhere in Indonesia. But as do any bottled drinks, leave the bottle behind after your drink. If you're on the go, tell the shop to pack it for you.

Favorite Dish: This Tehbotol Sosro is one of my favourite to quench thrist in every meal or on the go. I forget to pack it to Singapore.
