Pulau Batam Things to Do

  • The Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque (Masjid Raya Batam) is the most remarkable religious site in Batam. We came here in our attempt of doing some sightseeing and the mosque was listed as one of the top sites in the island. Built in 1999, the mosque is the largest in the Riau Archipelagos Province: it can accommodate 2,500 pilgrims inside the building and additional...

  • Hangout at Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall

At the time of writing (Dec 2011), Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall in downtown Nagoya is the hottest hangout place in Batam to the point that if you lose sight on anyone in the island you may just come here and wait for him/her to show up. And even without tailgating anybody you will end up here anyway since there is no much alternatives for killing some...

Pulau Batam Restaurants

  • Don't miss the Fresh Seafood

The place is about 20-30mins away from Batam Centre by taxi. It is very famous, there are two stores near each other, Golden Prawn 555 and Golden Prawn 933, both are very famous for their seafood. We chose 555 because of the recommendation by the blogs of a taiwanese couple. You could see many locals there. Just ask the staff member to catch the...

  • Kampong-Styled Seafood Restaurant

This restaurant is a mainstay for tourist groups. Once they arrive at the restaurant, they will be funnelled into a souvenir and dried food shop. Though prices here are relatively higher than those around Batam, it is still a wothwhile stop to stock up, especially for those who are in Batam for only one day and may not have the chance to visit...

Where can you find a mixture of Korean and Japanese? Well, at this restaurant you can have a blend of kimchi and sushi. We were too lazy to walk out of the resort and thus, chose something on offer within the confines of the resort. When we walked into the restaurant, I thought I'd just stepped into North Korea. I've seen pictures of their...

Pulau Batam Nightlife

  • by pythonman Written Jun 28, 2010

Batam is well known for his nightspot with many girlie bars and joints. If you want to have fun and plan to pick up women, you can do it few ways:
    1. Go to a pub, discotheque or lounge. You can easily chat up girls. Be careful though, these girls can cut ur throat literally. It is dangerous to pick up girls from these joints as some of them is from syndicate. How does it works? Well, you get this nice pretty girl and bring her back your hotel and do what you supposed to do. Half way, someone will knock at your door and if you opened up, a man claiming to be your girl's husband will confront you for having fun with his wife. You will end up thousands of dollars poorer. Other tactics include getting police to catch you, forcing you the "marry" the girl for huge sume of monies. Many foreigners get into such trouble. So beware.
    2. Get your taxi driver to bring you to a Cewek joint. As you pay for the servie, you don't get into the above trouble. Only problem is you may get STD and HIV. So please take precaution.
Also don't call the same cewek too many times 'cos once they know you well enough, they will want you to be their "abang" and start asking you for more money.

Pulau Batam Tourist Traps
