My mate and myself decided to go for upmarket Indonesian at the Tree Tops Restaurant of the Banyan Tree. A shuttle was arranged from the Angsana and we arrived at the Tree Tops in barely 10 minutes.
As the NE Monsoon was still blowing, eating al fresco (as the interior seats have been reserved) thus became a challenge as gust of winds swirled above our heads with the turbulent waves cracking onto the shore below the cliff face where the restaurant was sited. It was cool, a tad too cool. Bats were flying among the tree tops though and it was actually rather amusing as they fluttered from lights to lights.
Service was fantastic...as what you should expect from The Banyan Tree.
Favorite Dish: The food was a tad disappointing. For The Banyan Tree. The Beef Rendang was too rich in coconut milk. It tasted more like curry. Instead of the sombre fiery red I was expecting, it arrived looking a watery orange.
The Kalimantan prawn curry was again, very rich in coconut milk. The prawns while big, wasn't hours fresh as it tasted a tad powdery....always a sign that the prawns have been around for a while.
The Soto Ayam soup was a big surprise. We were expecting small bowls. We were served BIG bowls, big enough for 2 persons for each bowl. Rich in ingredients, I felt the richness actually stole the freshness of the soup away.
The saving grace was the Lavender Panna Cotta I had for dessert. Nicely creamy though I could not detect any hints of lavender!

Cafe Ole-Ole's food are very reasonable if u compare it to the restaurants at the resorts.
A lunch at The Cove (excellent food!), Banyan Tree set me back US$42 for two person's pasta and fruit juice.
While a lunch over here - simple yet nice nasi goreng and mie goreng with soft drinks cost only US$7.
Favorite Dish: The mie goreng was a tad too salty but the nasi goreng was sumptuous.
U can also ask for less spicy serving if u ain't into hot stuff.
U got to try it!

A nice Kelong-style restaurant that sits pretty on stilts just above the sea. This restaurant is simple in its decoration but serve pretty ok seafood. Remember to go early to get the best seats.
Favorite Dish: Try everything that you can get your hands on, but keep a look-out for their prices as it's about the same price as what you can get in Singapore. If it's not for the food, at least go for the ambience.

I like the ambience and fresh seafood. You can choose your "prey" from the mini kelong located at the entrance of the restaurant and select the way they cook it. I love the groupa and lobsters. I like it steamed especially when they are fresh.
Favorite Dish: I love groupa steamed with fried garlic. The meat is very soft and the aroma of the garlic spiced up the dishes.

Food are generally limited to what they sold in the lagoon and relatively expensive. The lagoon is isolated away from outside food.
You can take a free bus to kelong for seafood. Quite a nice experience.

The food served in Bintan are generally not tasty across the board in many resorts, including Angsana Bintan.
It is the best if you get a suite room with full kitchenette facilities.
There is a cooker, microwave, full cutlery and utensils, and there are condiments in the suite. For oil, you can use those small blocks of butter served for breakfast to cook your own food.
Buy and bring in. Be it chicken wings, steam veges, spaghetti, noodles, fried bacon, ham and eggs ....it will definitely be more fun and tasty doing your own cooking here! :)
You can see from the menu here the prices of food in the in-house restaurant.

This is one of the most popular place for a decent seafood dinner for most people. Over here, you can choose your own seafood and you will get it fresh on your table! For the 2 of us, we ordered a black garupa (0.2kg = $18) @ 60/kg, a lobster (0.5kg=$18) @ 90/kg and a chili crab (0.5kg = $18) @ 36/kg. Yummy, yummy... and also some beer to go with the good food. We paid for around $90 for the dinner but it was really a sumptuous treat! Payment can be made in Sing dollars. We were there quite early, around 5pm as we hoped to catch the sunset. However, the clouds were too thick and covered the sun so we didn't get a good view.

Had our first dinner in Bintan here.
There's an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant which makes it interesting to watch and pass time whilst waiting for orders to arrive.
Nice ambience.
Food was generally ok, but quality not consistent. Visited on second night, but was disappointed as there seemed to be quite a significant difference.
We were in a big group and tried quite a few dessert dishes. Found them mostly too sweet. Desserts are at half price after 8pm. But confirm with the waiting staff before ordering as we were charged full price for ours, but gave in when they insisted we ordered before 8pm though all of us were sure their wall clock showed past 8pm!
Favorite Dish: Lamb Beryani - Tender lamb, fragrant rice
Lamb Salad - Tender pieces of lamb, nice dressing, interesting presentation

Good food at prices comparable to restaurants in Singapore. 7 dishes for a table of 12 came up to about S$250.
All dishes ordered were good, especially the black pepper crab, prawns in herbal soup, and fried chicken.
Best service experienced in Bintan.

Kelong Sea food restaurant is an excellent joint located near the Mayang Sari Resort. It is built on the stilts over the South China Sea and is quite breezy. When we arrived there at 1900 hrs, it was very crowded and we had difficulty in getting the table of our choice. We decided to wait for a while in order to get the right table. The ambience is excellent. The view of the sea is also excellent. We were unfortunate in the sense that the clouds played a spoilsport and we could’nt watch the sunset. Although slightly expensive by Singapore standard.
There is a free shuttle service that can be used for going to the Kelong Sea Food restaurant. Just tell the driver that you want to go to Kelong Restaurant. The bus service is available every 30 mts and the last bus service is at 23:30 hrs. The food they serve is very fresh. They have reservoir near the entrance where you can go and choose your fish.
Favorite Dish: The seafood is very fresh and tastes great. We had Jumbo prawns, chicken satay and seafood fried rice. All of them were simply great.
