This place is certainly not the place for shopping. It is only for rest and relaxation. There are not many shops to choose from. Furthermore, the things here are very expensive, more expensive than in Singapore.

There's nothing much to shop at this place.... you can cover the whole area in 30 mins.... A very small place with only about 10-15 shops and the stuff are extremely expensive.....
A DVD (pirated) can cost about S$25! and a simple dress can cost you S$50.... Whereas, in the hotel, I can get the same dress for only $20!!
The only cheap stuff that I got from there is a knitted bikini top that costs S$9.....
Souveniers are expensive too....
Not worth the trip down.........
What to pay: Some hotel will charge you about S$2 per person for a bus trip down to the place and they give you 1 hour to roam around.... If you miss the bus back to the hotel, you may have to wait 2 hours for the next one...

What to buy: Tips for women:
Many fashionable clothes are imported from Hongkong and Korea in fair price.
If you are not visiting these 2 countries and end up in Tanjung Pinang, you can take this opportunity.
What to pay: Although the currency in Indonesian is Rupiah, Singapore Dollar is acceptable.

Just beside the ferry terminal, there's shop that sells fairly cheap clothing. Since you will arrive at the ferry terminal about 1.5hr before departure, you can shop around there.
What to pay: SGD, Credit Cards

Nothing special. Just walk around to pass the time.
What to buy: How about some art pieces? Batik perhaps?

Q: Does anyone know if it is possible to bring one's own food from Singapore to Bintan for the BBQ? We will be staying in a villa...

A: As long as you don't bring durian to the boat, you won't have problem with other food. Durian is not allowed on the boat between SG and Pulau Bintan.
