Mana Mana Beach Resort: Water Sports in Bintan

by bpacker Updated Apr 4, 2011

para sailing in bintan, file pix

Here's a list of sports activities I would indulge in Bintan. If I had the time. No matter, I'll list it down first and share the info first..

If you're a Singaporean , crazy about water sports and young, you would have visited Bintan's mana mana beach club at least once. I've been lots of time here when I was younger. That place has lots of budget options for snorkelling, wake boarding and diving, banana-boating, etc. I won't recommend diving(S$100 for a 2 tank dive?) there as there's little to see but you could try para-sailing. It's fantastic there. Check out the website for more details.

    Kayaking In Bintan

by DarkRay Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Chun & Kayak

Kayaking is always one of the best ways to explore the coastline of any place. It is least intrusive to the ecology of the environment and offers an excellent manner for one to take in the sights and sounds offered by nature at a comfortable pace.

Bintan with its clear waters offers good opportunities for kayaking. With the kayak, you are able to reach destinations not accessible by foot (the secluded beach besides Banyan Tree Bintan being one), and to get away from the crowd.

The watersports centre at Mana Mana Beach Club and its branch at Nirwana Resort offers various open-decked kayaks (single, double, triple) for rental at S$15 per hour.

Equipment: Do bring along suntan lotion or sunblock, as it can get really hot during the afternoon. If you plan to bring your photography equipments out to the sea with you, do bring a dry bag as well.

    Snorkeling

    by Amar_kirale Updated Feb 22, 2010
snorkling seight near rocks on Club Med beach

Dont forget to carry your own snorkel gear. Water is so clear that whereever you go on the beach, you can have a dip and snorkel. Its a great experience. If you are at Club Med you can do it near the rocks. It has a white sand beach which is almost a kilometer in lenght. You can see 1000s of fishes under water at a depth of 3 feets and at a distance of 3-4 feet. Carry some bread with you so that you can feed them. Few fishes are as big as 1 feet in lenght.

Equipment: Club Med provides you with all the equipments. But with their gear you have to do snorkeling at the spot where they take you to snorkel and that to in the time which is pre-defined. According to me that time (Check my "To Do Tip") is sufficient enough. But if you want to experience it for some more time, as any spot near Club Med is good to snorkel, then carry your own equipment. If not atleast swimming goggles.

    by Amar_kirale Updated Feb 22, 2010

Don't miss out on the archery. Club Med has an archery range. Its a type of sport that you don't get to play often. Experience it. They also have trainers to train you.

For a moment i felt like a medival warrior. They also host an archery competition for the guests. Its a lot of fun.

Equipment: Club Med provides you with everything, you don't have to carry anything

    Snorkeling

    by kiwigal_1 Written Sep 14, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While we were in Bintan we decided to sign up for a Snorkeling trip which was run by the Mana Mana Resort. We were able to book the trip through our hotel Nirwana though. We walked from Nirwana across to the Mana Mana beachhouse and got kitted out in fins and snorkel and mask. Then we piled on to the boat. The trip was worth it alone for the boat ride as it was really lovely to be able to get a view of the island from the sea. The snorkeling was in really warm waters and there were loads of fish of all colours over a small coral reef which was nice to look at too.

Equipment: The cost of the equipment is included in the price of the trip.

    Golf at Bintan Lagoon.

    by A2002 Written Nov 22, 2004

When you mention Bintan Lagoon, it will be associated with golf. This resort is famous for its two 18-hole championship courses, designed by golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Ian Baker-Finch. Many people come here just for golf. The golf course can get pretty crowded during the weekends. When I was there, I saw a queue at the tee-off.

For non-golfers like me, there's a driving range. Wack the balls as far as you can...

Equipment: Your own golf clubs. If not, rent them.

And she'll have fun, fun, fun ...

Bintan has some good waves and hosts a fairly major surfing competition each year.
The Japanese girls in the photo weren't the best surfers on the beach but they were the most scenic!

Equipment: Boards can be rented on the beach.
