Dirty ice tea water at hawker !!
When you eat at hawker or wet market please make sure that you should buy mineral water not ask for tap water, tea, ice tea etc because sometimes they use uncooked water.

Makassar is the one of the big city in the eastern part of Indonesia, and also the biggest city in Sulawesi Island. As like others big city around the world Makassar also has a dark side such as burglar and thefts, so I suggest to all tourist do not wear unappropriate clothes and jewellery, its better to bring only the useful equipment before leaving the hotel. Beside that tourist better not went out in the night to several places that has potential to crimes, so don't be shame asking the hotel employee before hang out in midnight. If tourist feels the time is too late to go back to the hotel after visiting the tourist attraction because of the night, tourist better asking to the police station or local people wheter they can help to find a place to rest.

All kind of antiques are still available in Ujung Pandang. For genuine antiques (you can usually tell by the prices), go to "CONY KARYA", (Jl. Pasar Ikan 26). Even if you don't intend to buy, you'll find museum-quality pieces here ...
If you DO buy ... the law says you must obtain an official permit from the office in the old Dutch Fort in order to remove antiques from Ujung Pandang! Failure to do so may result in the confiscation of your pieces at the airport ...
