Getting Around South Sumatra Province

I have been living in South Sumatra for two years and have flown a lot in that time. Fast travel in Indonesia can only be done by flying and as is the case with all air lines you have some good ones and you have some bad ones then you get the " PAY, SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP AIRLINE that you will have to avoid at all costs.

Recently I had to fly to Jakarta and going there I flew with Garuda Indonesia which is the national carrier and newish fleet.

My return to Palembang however was a big mistake. I booked with Sriwijaya Air who have a old fleet and departure was at 18h35, at 18h00 I discovered that the flight had been delayed untill 21h50, and at 20h10 I went to the airline office to enquire about the delay I was told by the staff that the plane was there and that it was being prepared. I went to have some dinner and at 20h40 I returned to the departure area to be told that the plane had departed.

The departure board still displayed the departure time time of 21h50 the friendly sriwijaya manager could not explain the situation and frankly did not really care. Sriwijaya Air offered to fly me home the 12h55 the next day. I refused the offer went to Garuda Indoneisa and they went to a lot of trouble to find me a seat the next morning at 06h05.

If you want to avoid being stranded in a strange city then avoid Sriwijaya Air at all costs.
