Big travel bag and daily pack (backpacker). The temperature quite hot and the middle of June it can be very hot, so preparing thin t-shirt and cargo pants will necessary. Plus hat and small-compact umbrella.

Sport gears and hiking sandals for weekend. Formal shoes for any occasion plus several shocks according to the temperature.
Meanwhile, for clothing as I descript it above, you can bring extra t-shirt (thin). Jeans can make you feel comfort also and if you feel too hot, change it with cargo pants or short pants.

Tissues and wet tissues (beware with great polution on the main streets). Vitamin C and aspirin. Also sunblock with high SPF.

Use your backpack and hiking sandal as I mentioned above. Adding with parachutes jacket and hat. Plus mosquito lotion (but don't think something horrible about these mosquitos in the beach).

  • It's so much better to use cotton and cool shirts, because the heat sometimes is unbearable, especially the humidity. You can change clothes three or four times in a day.

If you used to use toilet paper, you should bring the toilet paper, but it is available in most of the supermarkets. People in Jakarta are used to have water.

You can find almost any camera's batteries in big Fuji, Kodak, and Konica outlets.

Be sure to have diarrhea medicine with you

  • Any type of bag will do. But, Jakarta's road is not really suitable to drag your luggage with wheel. The roads are not all so smooth, some are really bad.

Jakarta is always hot no matter what. There's no use checking the weather forecast (except if you want to know whether is raining or not, which can be different to all areas in Jakarta anyway) The temperature is always around 30-33 degree. So,... light clothing would be enough. You can't feel any different.

    IMPORTANT! Mosquito repellant.

  • The bag that is not easy to be riped or cut. Cos Jakarta aiport is notorious for that.

Light clothing is fine. You could also wear something sexy for night life activities

Bring your personal medicine and toiletries. Not all international brand available here.

    Dictionary English - Indonesia!

Bring a large suit case, everything is very cheap in Indonesia / Jakarta. Who knows you would like to shop til you drop !!

Jakarta / Indonesia is very hot and humid. I would suggest, casual and smart casual. Bring sandals, sun glasses and a hat.

Lip Balm, Sun Block, Moisturiser, and usual medicines

  • A mid-size backpack should be good to explore Jakarta.
You don't need to carry all your valuable amenities since, like other metropolitan cities, every 'western' living standard little stuff is pretty easy to get anywhere in Jakarta.

    Study Abroad

Women, if you're used to tampons better bring extra just in case. It's not a very common thing in Indonesia.

    Not a Problem!

Follow the standard rule and you'll be fine...
Sexy is fine, but vulgar is a turn-off.

  • Indonesia uses 220 Volt electricity and the electrical outlet has two pin holes. The voltage in many places is unstable. If you are using a computer notebook (I brought my Apple ibook ) you may also have to get a voltage converter.
Best to bring along a converter for trying to buy locally in Indonesia may be difficult. My AC electrical power pack that came with my computer has the features in it already so this was not a problem. I still had to get pin connector from my fiance so I could connect properly.Due to my many travels to Asian countries, I carry a variety of different pin connector adapters.

  • Indonesia has two weather seasons, rainy and hot. This country has tropical type weather so temperture is mostly humid with overcast skies ocassionaly. When it rains, it is still humid outside.I had to ask when I first visited this country. Pack or bring clothing for hot weather, cotton type or casual clothing. I have also been advised that in certain places, you have to be careful how you dress. (mosques, temples or religious places and shrines)

Fuji film for 35mm camera readily available at most camera shops.210 volts electricty used so converter may be needed for any batter charger that use 110volts? I ran into this problem in Korea and blew my up my battery charger for my digital camera. In Jakarta, I had plenty of extra batteries, fully charged before I arrived.

Bring sunscreen and lip balm. A hat also?
Pest repeliant recomended too. I had problems with insect bites.

Before you leave on a trip (no matter how long you'll be away), list the complete contents in your luggage (that's everything... including make-up, books and medications). Carry a photo of your suitcase as well as a description of it (i.e. make, type, etc.). Should your bag be lost or stolen, you'll have everything you need with you in order to expedite a
    claim.

Secondly, my rule of thumb is to take enough clothes for one week OR for the length of the trip PLUS two days, whichever is shorter.

If you are traveling on business, you can probably pack along two suits and rotate between them. Try to take different colors of shirts/blouses; mixing and matching might fool people into thinking you brought more clothes than you did. That's the whole idea, isn't it? ;-D

If you are going on an extended trip, pick one color and stick with it... like say black. If you are part of the Generation X (ahem!).... REJOICE! Why? Because black travels very well. You can get ketchup stains all over your black jeans or coffee stained on your black t-shirt and nobody will ever notice! Just make sure they don't stand too close to you to catch a whiff of the...er... Well, I'm sure you know what I mean!
    :-))

These are the absolute necessities. So DON'T ever forget to pack them along! Toothpaste. Toothbrush.
Contact lens equipment and spare glasses. You might also wish to consider bringing along disposable contact lenses especially if you are going to be at a place with poor water supplies. Makeup (I never leave home without it!). Razor. Hair care products (brushes, comb, blow dryer, hair gel, hair spray. Get the picture?).

I bring along TWO types of cameras with me and load them with TWO different types of films i.e. ASA200 film (for day) and the high speed Kodak 800 film for museums or places that do not allow flash photography.

So, the cameras that I'd bring are: the Olympus mju Zoom (with wide-angle lens) which comes in a cool silver metallic color (I usually use this camera for day photography). And the Pentax 150 Zoom which I use for places that DOES NOT allow flash photography.

These days, I also bring along the ultra-small Canon IXUS Zoom camera - smaller than the size of my palm (and it also comes in a cool metallic silver shade). You can even hang this camera around your neck and it'd still look cool on you. This camera requires a special type of film (APS) to be used.

If you are going to do lots of walking and sightseeing, do remember to put the following items into your tote bag or backpack: Maps and perhaps a Bahasa Indonesia phrase book. Your all-important Guidebook. Water bottle. Sunglasses.... etc.

DON'T forget to bring along your much-treasured ATM card to withdraw cash. Yes, no need to rush to the
money-changers to change all your money into Indonesian Rupiahs before your trip.

And DON'T use your Visa or Mastercard to withdraw cash. This is considered a CASH ADVANCE and you'd be slapped with a HEFTY fee whereas if you were to use YOUR own ATM card, you will NOT be charged for any fees.

In fact, you WILL benefit and enjoy from the low interbank exchange rates. Trust me (I used to work for an American bank).

Just ensure that you adhere to the following steps:

    - Flip to the back of your local ATM card, do you see the logos 'Cirrus', 'Plus', 'The
    Exchange' etc. on it?

    - If the answer is 'yes', then you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

    - Why? Because you can withdraw cash from any ATM machines in Indonesia, no matter how obscure the town you're at is.

    - If you use this method, you'd also save alot from the interbank exchange rates. Money changers will charge you much, much more compared to a bank.

I've been using this method countless of times before and so far, no ATM machines in this world have failed me.... yet. Yes, even in the remotest village of Africa!

Photo Below: That's me looking a little jet-lagged (from Singapore to Jakarta?) and resting inside my hotel room at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta. I think I must have rushed to the airport straight from my office... hence, no time to refresh myself.

Normal-sized luggage and bags should be okay. If you plan to go crazy shopping, bring an extra large bags. If you have fancy suitcases, do cover it with some kind of protection as Jakarta Airport's baggage handlers are notoriously known to be rough.

Light cotton clothing is the most suitable for hot and humid Jakarta. Comfortable footwear is a must if you plan on do lots of walking for sightseeing and shopping. Flip flops, beach sandals, and shorts are okay for sightseeing and trips to the mall but may be frowned upon at fancier establishments. For the businessman and woman, a shirt and tie is normally formal enough for business meetings. October to April and usually extend to June is the rainy season, where rain showers can be expected most afternoons, be prepare to have an umbrella handy. March, August, September are the hottest months since the sun's position is near the equator.

Over the counter diarrhea medicine if you plan on indulging in street food yet have a weak stomach. Mosquito repellent is a must during rainy seasons (October-April). Other toiletries and over the counter medicines should be readily available on most drugstores throughout the city.

Films, batteries, and photo development services are readily available throughout Jakarta and are usually cheaper than buying abroad. If you plan on bringing your Digicam, the electricity in Jakarta is 220 Volts and we use plugs with two rounded prongs. Most hotels provide plug adapter kit, otherwise they're available in most drugstores. If your battery charger is set for 110-240 Volts then you'll be good to go.

Shorts, t-shirt, beach sandals, or flip flops are best for camping/beach/outdoor activities. Bring insect/mosquito repellent.
