Shopping at Pasaraya, Jakarta's largest department store, was a great experience. The top two floors were full of traditional items from all over Indonesia. The quality in most cases was very good and there were many useful products for the home.
I collect recipes from other countries and like to have typical momentos adding to the decor of a nice dinner, featuring a particular country's menu. So, this section of Pasaraya was a candyland for me.
What to buy: I bought gifts to bring home for friends and family. For myself, a handmade batik table cloth with napkins, a tape of Javanese drum music and small serving dishes for sambals which were easy to find at Pasaraya.
Of course, there is much more to this huge department store besides handicrafts, especially men's, women's and children's designer fashions and lovely perfumes.

I labelled the type of shop as other because, this place is filled with EVERY single goody!!!! :) There's clothing for men, women, children, jewellery, accesories, anything and everything you want. The best part is, you can actually bargain and always end up buying more than what you intended to, so be careful. Another good place to buy GOOD quality batik related products would be a chain thats called Batik Keris thats located in almost every corner of Indonesia. I have handbags, that Ive been using for a year, its its still in very good shape, its also quite affordable too!! :) Hope it helps!
What to buy: Batik, batik and more batik. Also some nice traditional handicrafts, like statues (made by people from Papua New Guinea) also some nice "wayang Kulit".
What to pay: Depending on what ure looking for, if its cheap, batik and variety, its mangga dua, but if its good quality stuff, its Batik Keris, and definitely Batik Keris is the expensive one of the both.

This exquisite mall is the extravagance of Oriental exterior which punches the Western spirit in the middle of its inner-purse. When visiting Luar Batang don't come here afterwards! You'll faint ...
It is PLAZA INDONESIA, actually a shopping mall for the rich and famous! Well, maybe the sophisticated-likes, too. Right in the business area at Jl. Thamrin, and connected to the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel.
What to buy: I heard a live outside broadcast is live on-air everyday with famies, include a talk show. A lot of visitors standing along the railings of the atrium on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor, and will applaud. The PLAZA INDONESIA should be very gay friendly, too. A great place to take a seat and watch passers-by. Good to know huh?
Want to buy some great souvenirs, see >>>
Sogo Seni Handicraft Center - 2nd floor
Batik Keris showroom - 1st floor
Toko Ampuh - Indonesian traditional medicines - basement
Guys,... find origins of Boss, Versace, Cartier, Gucci ... in PLAZA INDONESIA
What to pay: Don't embarrass me please ... ;-)

This is a very bad florist, that you cannot rely on.
I ordered flowers on the 10th of february, so that they could be delivered on Valentine's day, 4 days later.
The flowers arrived on the 16th of february, so two days after the planned delivery date.
The flowers were all dead, and there was no more water in the ... drinking glass that they used instead of a vast.
The accompanying card was destroyed, and with minimal design (probably wrote with a very old typing machine).
During the days that I was waiting for the flowers, Indoflorist gave no feedback, were not answering on the phone -the phone numbers on the website are wrong- nor by email.
I also noticed that the few reviews they wrote on their website are most probably fake.
Definitely will not use this "service" again.
What to buy: Don't buy anything from them, as flowers will be dead by the time they arrive, and the cakes will be spoiled.
What to pay: Don't pay for dead flowers, just get them in a trashbin.

We don't have a bazar baruh but we do have a Pasar Baru (or Passar Baroe, the old Dutch would say it). Pasar means market, Baru means new. But you can't imagine it looks like a new modern shopping centre. Au contraire, it's an area with long streets and filled with markets.
It's just in front of the Jakarta Art Centre. Very close to the Cathedral and the Mosque of Istiqlal.
You can ride taxi from the National Monument (Monas) for USD 2.5-3. Maybe less.
What to buy: Pasar Baru is cheap. Good place to look for shoes and lace or fabrics. And for salon goods. And for camera equipments.

The Mall of Indonesia (MOI) is an averagely-sized mall with the convenience of a complete line of shops just like any other mall. In it's surrounding abounds medium-end condominiums of towering heights of more than 20 floors. The Mall was just at the front of Nice Garden Condominium where we stayed during our Jakarta sojourn. In fact, our entrance to the apartment is at the basement of the garage of MOI. The thing I like most in MOI is it's well decorated halls. the very clean upkeep, and very less traffic inside, making it very convenient to shop.

What I like most from this mall is it has various kind of good restaurants. The decorations is unique as well, with boats, beach with water and clear sky. My favorite restaurant is Ta-Wan for their best porridge in town, Pancious for its mango waffel, and Urban Kitchen foodcourt with its city view (various of foodstall available as well).
For children there's a game center named Kidzania where children can play adults role and learn i.e as a pilot, driver, doctor, etc...
