chill. by belgianchocolate Be carefull , but enjoy and relax. I was scared the first time I visited Jakarta...But after a while I felt quit safe. Ok , It is normal that you put you wallet away. (there are a lot of really poor and desperate people here) The most dangerous thing here is the traffic , I think , and the pollution. So , my advice is , don't forget about the warnings , but don't think all the time about it. Relax and enjoy. Leave a Comment

Circus in Ragunan zoo. by belgianchocolate When you visit Ragunan Zoo there will be people walking round with snakes to have your picture taken. The will be a separate place to see the animal show where you will have to pay extra for. Do you want to pay to see animals get abused? Do you want to support animail abuse? Just some question you will have to ask yourself. Leave a Comment

When visiting always ask for the Blue Bird or the Silver Bird taxis. Both are under the Blue Bird Group Taxis. They are dependable and safe. They will always use the meters. NEVER use taxis where the drivers say the meter is "rosak" (not in working condition) YOU WILL BE FLEECED. If you have no choice but to use an unmetered taxi, ASK THE FARE FIRST AND AGREE ON THE FARE TO YOUR DESTINATION, before getting in! Leave a Comment

US Dollar is considered as a Commodity in Jakarta and Mint Dollar Bills are prefered by the Money Changers, Folded, Old or Marked Bills fetch 100~200 IDR less then the Exchange Rate, (even Bank's do not accept them) so make sure you have clean dollar bills not folded and marked or take any other currency like GBP, AU$ or S$. Before selling ask the Exchange Rate and do you own calculation(pocket calculator is always handi), do not trust on the Calculator at the reception of Money Changer some time it goes crazy (and later you will also go crazy when you know that hehehe) Becarefull while Buying Back the Green back, buy only from Reputed Currency Dealers as Forged Bills are so common, many hotel do have Currency Exchane Counters but selling to them is not recomenended (low rates) as as shopping malls Leave a Comment

In Jakarta, crime can happen almost anywhere. One of the most common places to get robbed would be the public transportation. Be very careful of what you show people when you are in public. Keep your eye on your stuff! If the crew takes your luggage, make sure you can watch the luggage compartment or at least be sure nobody can get to it. Pickpockets are also common in buses. Hijackers (sometimes a gang of high school students!) can sometimes take over the bus. Bus terminals are usually full of people and can be a problem as well. If you decide to use public buses, don't flaunt your wealth (or anything someone may want to take: cameras, expensive sunglasses, cellphones etc) Leave a Comment Phone: 112 (free call to the police)

On most of d red lights, u will encounter street musicians.... sometimes they even ask for money before they sing or play their instruments... in case like this, just give a no signal with your hand... DO NOT open d window!!!!!!!!!! if they look dangerous and refuse to leave and it's still a long time before the traffic light turns green, just give them around Rp 1,000 ($0.10) with very small opening of d window becoz sometimes if they don't get what they want, they'll scratch ur cars or something........... Whatever u do, DO NOT open d window on traffic lights unless u enjoy being mugged Leave a Comment
