Idul Fitri Holiday

by dewigotama

I don't think Blue Bird Group will shut their operation, try to call to order 021-79171234 or order directly from Blue Bird counter in Soekarno Hatta airport and there is no additional charge for midnight order. There are few malaysian Bank in Jakarta, i think Maybank and Hong Leong are both located in Kelapa Gading area, check out your ATM Card if there a cirrus, maestro or any other logos attached on the back of your ATM Card. Try to find ATM Machine that has the same logos as yours, for confirmation ask your local bank before you arrival.Shopping malls operating hours on the first day of Idul Fitri starts from 12 or 1pm, but after that, opens with normal operating hours starts from 10am-10pm.

Rich and poor at Jakarta

by victorwkf

When you are at Jakarta, you can see the big differences between the rich and poor people living in this big city. There are certain sectors of the city (especially in the northern area near to the airport) where there are many big and beautiful houses of the rich people. There are also some luxurous condomiums in the city centre area.In some areas of the city, you can see poor slums near to rivers, roads etc (the situation seems to improve in Jan 2008 when I was there after a few years).

Batik.

by Sharrie

Batik: Indonesia produces the world's finest batik. It's made by a wax resist process where wax is applied to the cloth to halt the flow of dye. Wax is applied in 2 ways: 1) Uses a copper stamp, known as a cap, to stamp a design of molten wax onto the cloth by hand. It's known as batik cap. 2) Draw the design onto the cloth by hand - called Batik Tulis. After the design has been completed, the material is then dyed the required colors & the wax is removed by melting it off. The material may be redyed a number of times until the required colors & quality are reached. Cotton is the leading material (the best is called primissima) & good quality silk is the most stylish. When washing batik, handwash it if it has been made from natural vegetable dyes. The colors won't fade so fast. Artificial dyes can be machine washed. For the first few times, remember not to wash them with other light...
