Muara Karang Fish Market
by aj03
If you done visiting downtown. You can go to Muara Karang Fish market located in North Jakarta. You better go in the afternoon or diner time when fresh fish just unloading from the boat. It is interesting busy main fish market in town. You better use short and sandals since it is wet and often flooding surface, it is not the most clean and hygienic place on earth, not to mention fish smell. Go watch fish trading and you can always buy fish or shrimps or anything you like and bring your fish to local barbeque restaurant near by fish market. There are more than dozens, but I always go to the upfront fish restaurant called Sedap Malam, it is easy to find from the parking place. They have awesome mango chilly and other various chilly made from peanut, soy-bean and tomatoes and fresh chili, shrimp paste.

A walking distance from Maritime Museum is the Menara Syahbandar. This is a five-storey tower, was built at about the same time with the Maritime Museum. From the windows of the tower, the harbour-master could see the harbour and make necessary arrangement for enter-exit of the ships. Now, the tower is a part of the maritime museum. On its wall hang a lot of pictures of the harbour and ships from the old days. Some cannon was kept and displayed at the front yards of the tower.
