Pulau Peucang Guest House restaurant: Better bring your own food

by vicka Written Jan 7, 2007

Due to remote are, Ujung Kulon has no other restaurant unless the one that in Pulau Peucang Guest House. So, better bring your own food, or perhaps you can arrange it with local tour operators in Jakarta.

    By road to Ujung Kulon

    by theo1006 Updated Oct 4, 2006

You can reach Ujungkulon Reserve by car. From Jakarta to Tamanjaya village near the park entrance is about 250 km and will take the greater part of a day. Route: Jakarta, Serang, Pandeglang, Labuhan, Citeureup, Sumur, Tamanjaya.
In november 2005, when we went there, the last 20 km from Sumur to Tamanjaya was in very bad condition. These 20 km took us 1,5 hours driving a Panther. They are now reparing the road. Check with the rangers office in Labuan (+62.253.801217) whether you still need need a Kijang, Panther or 4-wheel drive, or whether any car will do.

By public transport you may need to spend a night at Carita or Labuan. From there take a minibus to Tamanjaya, about 5 hours. Carita is a starting point to visit Krakatau volcano.

A side trip takes you to Tanjung Lesung beach Water buffalo crossing At a stop at Paniis Beach 3 km from Tamanjaya Festivities for Lebaran (end of muslim fast)

Suaka Margasatwa Ujungkulon Off The Beaten Path

  • Get high on magic mushrooms

Our guide was very happy to find 'magic mushrooms' on a stretch of meadow near Cibunar. They grow on banteng turds. Dry them and put them in your tea.

  • Canoeing Cigenter River

Canoeing in Cigenteur River if you're lucky you could bump into a one horned Javan Rhino taking a bath but your chance is RARE. Unless you stay for at least 20 days in the national park, your chance of seeing a Rhino is NIL.
