Favorite thing: If your phone is based on GSM or CDMA technology, you can use your phone here.
But if you are from Japan, you won't be able to use the phone cause different system.
Just buy a prepaid SIM card to get going. You can buy this in many communication shop in the street or in shopping malls. The price of this SIM card is as low as Rp. 9,000 (under $1!) to Rp. 100,000 (about $11). There are many SIM card brands. For GSM there are Simpati, Mentari, IM3, Kartu As, XL, etc. And for CDMA there are Telkom Flexi, Starone and Fren. If you have a CDMA phone and you want to use the same SIM card in different cities in Indonesia, then Fren is your only option, cause Telkom Flexi and Starone can only be used in 1 city.
