Galaxy Mall is the biggest mall in eastern part of Surabaya. It is located around 7 km from downtown in the middle of expensive housing. The price of the stuffs definitely more expensive because this mall is segmented for upper and middle class people. However, if you search for some exclusive and branded stuffs, this mall is the right choice for shopping.
What to pay: September 2005 $1=Rp10,500
If you are an foreigner, definitely you could buy many items in this mall.

Arguably THE biggest shopping complex in Surabaya, the Tunjungan Plaza started as a single block over a decade ago. Its' success over the years have resulted in continuous expansion of the complex, now consists of 4 blocks interlinked to each other (which houses several big stores such as Matahari -a local department store- and Sogo), and also linked to the Surabaya Sheraton Hotel.
Shoppers looking for good deals for clothings, apparels and accesories will love this place.
Although the selection is limited, the plaza also has some stores selling local handicrafts.
What to buy: Surabaya may not be Hong Kong or Singapore, but if you are a seasoned shopper, there are plenty of good bargains to be discovered in Surabaya and other cities in Indonesia (such as Jakarta).
What to pay: The shopping center is somewhat upmarket, so the prices ranges between average and rather expensive. Anything other than branded goodsshould be reasonably cheap by tourist standard.

Batik Mirota is a treasure trove of gift ideas. Sourced from all over Indonesia, there is plenty of batik, cushions, dress materials, traditional clothing items, wood carvings, children's traditional toys, antique radios, pottery and furniture.
What to buy: A good place for batik - an enormous range.
Inexpensive cushion covers.
Plenty of small souvenir items.
Furniture tends to be a bit rough in finish, so this is more a place for small gifts.
What to pay: Prices are set. This is certainy a 'tourist' shop, but in foreign currency terms items are not expensive. You would spend months trying to gather all these multifarious ethnic wares yourself.

Oleh Oleh is rather hidden away in the Kupang Indah suburb of West Surabaya, but only about 25 minutes by taxi from the CBD.
The shop (on two floors)has an eclectic collection of handicrafts from all over Indonesia - batik, hand woven textiles, wood carving, statuary, silver jewellery, gifts, ornaments and teak furniture.
Prices are set and clearly marked. The staff are most helpful and speak English. Prices are very reasonable.
There is excellent quality control - everything is well chosen as being the best of its type.
This is a favourite haunt for expats living here - for furnishing a house, souvenirs, or gifts for friends back home.
What to buy: There is an excellent choice of batik and hand woven textiles from the islands East of Bali.
Beautiful silver broaches and necklaces.
Lovely handicrafts suitable for children and adults.
Substantial furniture - chairs, tables, four poster beds.
What to pay: Prices are very reasonable and generally cheaper than hotel shops.
