This place had been constructed in 2005 and it certainly look like that, it's very run down. We have been several times to rate this place but we only see a few local people, no foreign tourist come here. You can't really blame them... First, you pay $6 each for child/adult during weekdays, it is more during weekends and I'm not sure why since nobody comes in this place anyway. The last time we came they were adding 2 slides only but not repair any place that was all rugged and damaged, we still have to pay full price when half of the place wasn't available. There were nearly 30 workers welding, hammering, etc. in the main slide area. We wanted to go home and ask for refund but they refused to give us our money back but we've gone home anyway, just can't stand being there. It's was just a sad place. It was quiet and far from downtown. There is a restaurant, a booth that sell nothing but junk food and you are also not allowed to bring your own food. So if you are a foreigner, you have to be full before you go in. They have a massive sign "Safety first" but this isn't really the case, they opened the slide area and let the water run but the workers were still welding, climbing up and down the steps with materials and tools. No were near safety at all! The service was appalling, it's like talking to someone who has no reasoning or understanding ability, like a Robot. We tried to explain the reason that they should refund us the money, but they keep going back to the receipt the states in Indonesian "no refund". We spent $60 dollars plus our fare and wasted our half day! We are not going back again and this will put us off going to a place similar in Indonesia in the future.

Althougn the Surabaya Zoo is not the best, you may want to visit it in your spare time. It's a unique zoo, not so clean, but the largest zoo in Indonesia. No less than 3.500 heads of animals from 400 species of mammals, birds and reptiles are being kept there.
The Surabaya Zoo was formarlly opened on August 31, 1916 when a group of animal lovers gathered together and decided to open a zoological garden on an area of approximately 16 ha downtown. Later it was moved to the present site uptown. The Surabaya Zoo's collection includes animals from Indonesia as well as from many parts of the world.

Facilities and special services offered to visitors include: first aid care, insurance for accidents, service for lost children, restaurants, cafe, ice cream parlor, soft drinks and snacks stands, children's playground. Outside the Zoo there are a number of eating houses, serving Indonesian food. Visitors, however, are recommended to ask about the price or observe the price list before placing an order to prevent overpricing.

It is daily open from 07.00 - 17.00.
