Beware of pickpockets in Surabaya. Though this doesn't happen very often but better be careful than sorry. Especially if you are walking in a busy street. But Surabaya is a safe place to go. If you go to major shopping malls like Tunjungan Plaza or Supermal Pakuwon Indah, there won't be any pickpockets around.

When you come to Surabaya using travel agent, maybe they will take you to eat only at restaurant or hotel. They will not take you to eat at downtown. Don't get wrong, there are a lot of eating place that are delicious. Especially some food that you will not find it outside Surabaya, such as nasi bebek, iga goreng (fried rib), etc. By the way if you want to know more about that, you can contact me.

You can use your cell phone in Indonesia
intotheblue profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

intotheblue 13 reviews

Favorite thing: If your phone is based on GSM or CDMA technology, you can use your phone here.
But if you are from Japan, you won't be able to use the phone cause different system.

Just buy a prepaid SIM card to get going. You can buy this in many communication shop in the street or in shopping malls. The price of this SIM card is as low as Rp. 9,000 (under $1!) to Rp. 100,000 (about $11). There are many SIM card brands. For GSM there are Simpati, Mentari, IM3, Kartu As, XL, etc. And for CDMA there are Telkom Flexi, Starone and Fren. If you have a CDMA phone and you want to use the same SIM card in different cities in Indonesia, then Fren is your only option, cause Telkom Flexi and Starone can only be used in 1 city.
