Yogyakarta.

by Kozzmozz

When you are visiting Yogyakarta, you definately have to do a roundtour through the centre of Yogya. Here you can find a lot of beautiful buildings, who originates from the Dutch period in the past. At the picture, you can see the Old Post Office, which is situated at the Jalan Malboro.

by Kozzmozz

Climbing the Bromo-vulcano at the eastside of Java. The active Bromo volcano stands at 2,328m and is one of the most popular natural sights on Java. For many visitors to Indonesia, the trip to Bromo is their most memorable experience. Seeing the sun bathe the crater in golden light, picking out the gulleys and ruts in the almost lunar landscape. Sipping sweet Kopi manis after a 3:30 in the morning start, and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face as the day begins. But like most good things, there are those who are disappointed. In particular, you may find yourself surrounded by literally hunderds of other tourists. Or it's to cloudy so you can't see the sunrise quite well.

Visit the coastal town of AMED.If you like quiet and natural and beach and snorkeling, scuba etc then you'll like Amed. The beach is a long arc with gorgeous sunsets and a volcanoe as an imposing view that makes you go WOW!The beach is black sand and maybe because of this or maybe because it's a fair trip from the tourist centre of Kuta it is is no way touristy but has tourist facilities for the few who do stay.I've been told its a good place to get your dive certificate.

by GenkiMac

This cafe is at the back of the monkey forest and is easily missed. It's a tree house type construction and has a narrow swing bridge to a look out from the top floor. We sat and had a beer on the top floor on a swing seat with a view of the forest. It was looovely!

by GenkiMac

See Bali Art. The best collection of all things cultural is in Ubud which doesn't need any intro as everyone knows Ubud. I wasn't such a big fan of it but I haven't talked to many who share my opinion so from all accounts MUST GO SEE! It has culture without being too touristy although it is definately more touristy than the other places we saw in Bali. If you are looking for shopping/ Art/ Dancing/ nightlife then Ubud has it all in easy to get to distance.

by GenkiMac

Take a ferry to Nusa Lembongan for a few days.for photos see chapter on Nusa LembongganSee the locals harvesting their seaweed crops every evening as the sun sets and the tide goes out. The bay is shallow and as a result is covered in beds of seaweed. Its a truly unique opportunity to witness the hive of activity in such a gorgeous location.

Try to get away from the tourist spots and get to some of the everday (and night) markets where real life goes on. Bima on the Island of Simbawa was excellent for this. And the people LOVED to have their pictures taken!

by belfastlass

One of my mates is a photojournalist from Austria. We ended up planning activities around his photo shoots, which were grand because we covered just about every inch of Bali and Lambok. The temples were my personal favourites. Like I said before, Bali is magical, and the temples are such a part of these peoples lives, you couldn't help taking that spirituality home with you! Even if yer 'reality' only allowed you to stay that peaceful for a few days after!

by Audrey118

Wood carving - I just love those wonderful crafts - while walking the one main street in Ubud town, you get to feast your eyes at numerous shops with beautiful local wood work. We instead went to Mas, which is a huge wood-carvers village about 1/2 hour ride from Ubud. Over here, you get to see the carvers at work, some demonstrations as well, and also lots of showrooms eyeing out on tourist to take them home. They packaged to goods well with lots of bubbles wrap and have them packed nicely in a box with strings to hold them up. We bought a pair of seated Balinese wedding couple - they are awesome!!! And then at the airport we saw a different type of wedding couple - we were told that was Javanese coupled - so I just had to add on to it. Other lovely wood work to buy are of wildlife such as eagles and also the Balinese religuos icon, the komodo dragons and also images of Buddhas etc.
