by dr_in_asia

OK, two other things we did while in Bali were also unique was to visit a monkey forest (with temple in the forest) and the monkies will come and sit on your shoulder. However they are very precocious and so will steal hats, glasses or anything not firmly attached to you and run off with it. Fortunately the guides are good at retreiving. The other place were the local temples, in particular Tanah Lot (sea Temple) and an Elephant temple (in a cave).

A walk in the rain forest,a visit to the rice terraces and paddy fields, trips to the many temples, a look around Ubud market (try your bargaining skills), a visit to the volcanos, visit the small villages off the beaten track, a visit to Ubud monkey forest(watch your cameras and bags, the monkeys will have them!!)The list could go on, so go to Bali and see as much as you can.

by inuit

You must visit a Kulit Wayang in Java. This is the shadow puppets theatre show you can see in ususally in Jogjakrta. This old traditional Javanese way of telling stories is combined with the Gamelan music. Usually telling the story of the Ramayana. It can take up to nine hours!!!Gentle music and story telling. Great master artists.

Ubud, Bali: Alot of art, wood carvings and markets. We went there for a day. The thing I remember the most is a recreation park. It looked like a tempel, filled with colourful buildings, birds and small waterfalls.some of the buildings are for rent and locals often use them for their wedding night.

by klchong

Visiting Borobudur, one of the World Wonders, is a must. Borobudur is in Yogyakarta and is the greatest Buddhist Temple in the World. It built in around 8-9 B.C. and took about 100 years to finish. However, it was covered by volcano ashes for over 1,000 years and was discovered by a British in 1815. It is an excellent architecture in the ancient Indonesia.

by klchong

In Bali, you should watch a cultural dancing performance named Taritarian. Like other cultures, the dance describes their own mysterious stories. If you don't mind spending too much time (a show takes 2-3 hours), it should be quite interesting. (picture : Barong Dance)
