Mt. Bromo is a great stop on the overland route form Jakarta to Bali. It is also a good day (and night) trip from Yogya. The sunrise over the vocanic crater is awesome. The landscape is unwordly as you cross the 3 km of the Sand Sea which is the caldera of a huge extinct volcano. You then climb the volcano wall and watch the sun come up. As you look back at the trail you just followed, the ragged line of people and horses walk through the dust looks like a scene from a biblical epic.

Prambanan is a large Hindu temple complex dating from the the middle of the 9th century AD. The quality of sculpture is very high. The Ramayana Ballet presents wayang orang (dance drama)at an open air theatre at the temple complex. It was very colorful and exciting and the backdrop of the sun going down over the temple was very special.

Borobudur is a temple complex north of Yogyakarta in Java. The temple is one of the largest Buddhist ones in the world. It is an interesting place to visit and very picturesque in the early morning. The journey to the top (up very steep steps), takes you past carvings painstakingly restored years ago. The stupas house statues in different poses. Some are open to allow you to see more closely the 'inhabitants'.

Mount Bromo is part of the most impressive volcanic environment imagineable.Climbing the mountain in the dark of early morning allows you to see the sun rise over a landscape revealled as being like some sort of lunar scape fallen to earth. The photo below gives you some impression of this place. Perching on the side of this still steaming crater as the sun peaks over the horizon, is awesome. Go there!

This is so very wonderful: Be a kid again and do all the attractions of this beautiful park. Its a true swimming paradise. Clean, beautyful parksurroundings, nice pool, a riverstream, waterglides and many things more. High quality maintained. Never saw anything like it anywere in Europe !

The Monkey Forest in the centre of Bali. Very touristic, but also unic. Nice for a daytrip. Here I feed a monkey at the Monkey Forest in the centre of Bali. The monkeys are getting to you as well! But beware! Some of them can be agressive!

Visiting Mt. Bromo in East Java.Visiting Bromo was one of the most interesting experiences in all my travels. The scenery is absolutely spectatular. Mt. Bromo is an active volcano that is part of a larger complex of volcanos. The way to visit it is to spend the night in a lodge on or near the volcano, get up at 3 AM and trek or pony ride to the Bromo crater to watch the sun rise. After that you can hike or take a jeep up to nearby higher elevations for really spectacular vistas of the area.
Although I have studied dance a bit, this was like nothing I had seen before. The movements are so intricate and presice...right down to which way the dancers eyes are looking. The stories are intricate and complex, and, frankly, had me baffled, but it was still so so cool to see. All traditional instruments are used in the accompaniment, which is also extremely cool. I highly recommend this :)
