The Monkey Forest

by Libs

I suppose that this is, in truth, a bit silly, but I liked it anyways. It's a nice shadey escape from the sun. There are lots of monkeys, and you will see them possible closer then you want to :) Just don't take any food with you...don't buy a banana outside the gate...and they should leave you alone. One of the things that makes the Monkey Forest cool is that the Balinese consider it a sacred place and have several temples there. There are stone carvings all around as well, some of which are HUGE. I can't remember how much this cost, but it was cheap...maybe about 2000 rupiah.

LAKE TOBA, North Sumatra.

by Perucha

Formed by a stupendous prehistoric volcanic explosion, the 100 km long lake is the largest in Southeast Asia and one of the deepest and highest in the world. The drama of that cataclysmic birth persists in 500 meter cliffs dropping into the blue-green waters. Surrounded by steep, pinecovered slopes, the climate is fresh and pleasant.

Golf at IMPERIAL KLUB GOLF,...

by Perucha

Golf at IMPERIAL KLUB GOLF, Lippo KarawaciCreated by British designer, Desmond Muirhead, the Club's 6,429-metre, 18-hole championship golf course has been constructed to blend essential Indonesian images into 'a large conceptual sculpture' with each hole having its own identity, name and individuality. Those who are used to playing golf on a flat course will be challenged to experience the difference at Imperial. The wind, deep and sometimes long and wide bunkers in all sort of shapes and interesting water hazards - the later coming into play on 9 out of the 18 holes - add to the course's challenge.

Surfing at NIAS

by Perucha

Nias has one of the best righthanders in Indonesia. It is situated at the western end of Lagundi Bay and holds up to 15 foot. Nias is a truly spectacular place with breathtaking scenery around every corner, lush tropical valleys, water-falls and deep dense jungle cascading down the hillsides to the golden sandy beaches and the warm Indian Ocean. U don't wanna believe that accomodation here is incredibly cheap : only 50 cents USD per night in a bungalow !!!

by carstenj

Worth visiting apart from touring the countryside in general and visitng the volcano, the many amazing hindu temples around is recommended. If you're looking for action, you should go rafting on the Agung River where the water is warm and the scenery is beautiful. You may also go on a bike ride from the volcano south to the beaches, and experience the small villages, rice fields and jungle.

Bali still clings proudly to...

by Krystynn

Bali still clings proudly to its Hindu traditions... and you can see the many Hindu temples dotting this island. Let's begin with the Besakih Temple (see pic below). This temple is considered by the Balinese as the 'mother' temple of Bali - whatever that means. I'm sorry... I'm not a Hindu but would still love to hear about the actual meaning...

by Krystynn

Go to BALI!The image of BALI as a tropical paradise began to appear in the West as early as the 1920s. It is now a major tourist destination. However, many beautiful beaches where tourists stay have very little of the 'real' Bali. To experience it, you must go inland and explore the charming villages and towns. Come along with me as I try to give you a glimpse of life on this mythical island....Photo Below: Padi (rice) fields... They are everywhere!

Visitors should definitely visit the Gili islands and Ubud as well as venturing up to Bali's volcanoes and the mountains of the north. Lombok is also a great visit as it provides a glimpse of Bali before the tourists arrived.
