If you are into biking, go to North Sumatera by Lake Toba. It's gorgeous, but just look out for the logging trucks. They don't really seem to want to move for the cyclists.The view of the lake is beautiful, the smells and sights are unforgetable, and the whole thing is just plain fun! And once you get to the lake, you take a ferry that takes you across the lake to Samosir Island. You can fish, swim, and go boating there. Very relaxing.
There are three recommendations when travelling this region:1) Go Volcano Trekking, every main island has one.2) Go Diving or Snorkeling, some of the best sealife here! (careful of the coral though).3) See Yogyakarta - the best place to see true Indonesian culture!These are the true ingredients of Indonesia, you can see active Volcanoes (the indonesians have a good volcano watch scheme - go to the recommended craters). Bromo is a picture postcard well worth seeing! Diving is harder work here as there are lots of varying currents but well worth doing to see Turtles, Sharks, Rayfish and other amazing coral.
Sumatra is delightful in every way. I'd give MEDAN a pass, but Brastiggi, and Bukit Tingi and surrounding areas are very attractive with lots to see. Lake Toba is stunning and one can travel around Samoir Island easily.Yogakarta is a tourist paradise with nearby Borobudur and of course there is the one and only BALI!The people are very friendly and I never had any problem. The traditional houses and gravesights are something to see.The Architecture is unique and impressive.
The pool at quality resort is massive and you could think your any where exotic in the world.ten minutes away from there ,you see what I would basically describe as a shanty town.old broken down wooden houses,no apparent electricity, nothing at all that would resemble a cozy living quarters.
I could not list all the places that are a 'must see and do' in Bali. I will list a few. The Jurong Bird Park and Reptile Park, White Water Rafting, The Waterbom Park, Git Git Waterfall and Tanah Lot at sunset.These activities all have their own special qualities. You need to experience them to appreciate them.
Theres plenty of activites that i didnt do that are supposed to be amazing. The 4 day boat trip to Flores and to the Komodo dragons is meant to be great. But for me, going to Gili Trawangan was great and seeing the north of Bali. If you can extend your stay in Indonesia, im sure you would benefit alot more, the country has a lot of natural beauty to offer!Picture : Beach on Gili Air
