Kuta Beach. This is where...

by Libs

Kuta Beach. This is where most people stay when they come to Bali. I hate it! The hassling is worse there then anywhere else on the island. I think it ruins a lot of peoples Bali experience because they stay in Kuta Beach the whole time and all they remember from there entire trip is how absolutely everyone wanted to sell them somethign and no one would leave them alone. It's not nearly so bad outside of Kuta! I promise! If you don't like Kuta, don't stay there. Go to the interior of the island or any of the other lovely beaches...that's the other thing...I think a lot of the other beaches are nicer then Kuta anyway.

“Excuse me. You wanna’ buy a watch?” “Hello. You want massage?” “I give you good price.” “Good massage for you.” “You want come look in my store?” “Which watch you like?” “I give you good massage.” “Special price for you.” “Okay. Okay. Come look inside.”Somewhere underneath a torrent of hecklers, lies the beach resort of Kuta. Rather than exemplify the 'Jewel in the Crown,' this chaotic surf and shopping destination can often seem reminescent of the Twilight Zone. Like flies in a Mexican border town, street hawkers are EVERYWHERRE. Not only are they pestering and aggressive, they can be downright hostile.Awakening in Bali assures you an enjoyable arrival in Bali without the hype and annoyance that can otherwise leave an unfortunate, everlasting impression. We see to it that, immediately upon your arrival, you are transported to the peaceful environs of upcountry Ubud, and that you are...

BALI:Moneychangers at Kuta...

by Yiannis2000

BALI:Moneychangers at Kuta beach, even in small offices are professional in cheating you by miscounting banknotes. The last time I insisted in counting the money while holding them myself, the changer suddenly changed his mind and did not want my dollars any more.Use ATM instead! Especially in Bali there are quite a few accepting VISA or CIRRUS transactions.

If you like night out here, I suggest you not to come in Ramadhan month (it's holy month of Moslems, ie. they don't eat nor drink from 4 AM to 6 PM). Since 90% are Moslems in Indonesia, government doesn't permit clubs/bars/pubs/discos to open late. They close at 12 midnight and that's it. Other option, you have to go to places where Moslem is not majority religion, ie. Bali or North Sulawesi. So u still can party till dawn!

by carstenj

The first thing you must learn when arriving in Bali is how to get rid of the relentless street vendors. They will sell you overpriced crap if they can get away with it....and they can! So learn to say NO and say it all the time. If you decide to trade, haggle and haggle hard. You will also experience heaps of offers to take you sightseeing, but the trips are usually constructed to take you on a shopping tour (wood-art, silver jewelry, theater, paintings etc.). The tip is to insist that you go specific places, such as their home village as in the picture (my drivers and grandpa).Of course you also have to remember that they actually live of this, so be generous without being a fool.

by Pierre_Rouss

If you know where you are going, if you can carry your own luggages, try to keep your eyes of them since they will likely be picked up by a well intended fellow that might just ask you for a tip or something to get your hands back on them.

by loobear

Have to pay entrance fee when visiting Bersekih at Tanah Lot. What we didn't know was after paying at the booth, we have to proceed to the next booth to contribute to the local Red Cross. Donating to charities is a virtue I strongly encourage in my children ...but I would rather have it incorporated into a single entrance fee... the way it is done over there, made me feel like I was taken for a ride.

When we were on Bali we wanted to buy sigarettes on the local market. So we bought a few boxes of sigarettes.Afterwards we've noticed that we bought 1 normal package and 4 empty packages. What was wrong? On the empty packageswas a kind of stamp (in the Indonesian language) which said:only for advertising. Because we couldn't read it we were trapped in this. And the salesman also didn't tell us.After a few days we could laught about this but not at the moment.

Although Gunnung Bromo is completely amazing you will not want to stay more than one day in the accommodation provided. We were 'ripped off' and had to pay 150,000 rupees for one night in sub standard accommodation because we didn't book ahead!!Watch out, all the hotels here are rubbish and in desparate need of face lifts.. It does all seem worth it however when you see the awesome view of Gunnung Bromo as the Sun rises above the crater at 5:00am.
