Mainly in Kuta, locals are after as much money off of you as they can get. Bargain hard for anything without a price tag, but do it politely and if you can with a smile! If you get the ferry from Bali to Lombok, the buses that take you to the ferry terminals will stop at cafes on the way where they gain a comission if you buy something. You are under no obligation to buy anything. Youll find that all the locals are after any coins you may have from your own country so its worth taking some away with you, they seen to treasure these foreign coins!Also, when you leave the cafe to board the ferry, someone will carry your bag for you, dont let them , unless you want to pay a tip!i made this mistake and caused a big 'scene' on the ferry as i had a row with the guy who'd carried my bag! ive now learnt my lesson and will always carry my own bag!Picture : Lake Batur

In South East Asia make sure YOU are the last person to count your money at the moneychangers. Often the moneychanger will count it again after you have...that's when some of it disappears!
