getting around jakarta is A HASSLE BUT FUN

by aniza

transportation in jakarta is a real HASSLE since it does not have any kinda trains connecting to the town and the places of interest....that's a bit letdown if u are visiting jakarta but not a problem for those adventurous type.......and in the car itself able to take few scenic shots of the capital.......it's beautiful if there are only someone out there to shine it's walls......as i come from totally different environment...

Horse Cart, not merely a Rural Transportation

by meiyergani

In a certain place of Indonesia, a Horse Cart is a model of Transportation. If you have a chance to Bengkulu, Jakarta, Bogor, Central Java, Solo, Yogyakarta, Bali, Lombok, South Sulawesi, Manado you can find this model of Transportation. Riding a horse carts is a great experience while you travel in Indonesia

Explore Indonesia by SEA

by meiyergani

Indonesia is an island country, one can go from one island to another by Sea Transportation. Tanjung Priok is a Sea Port which link its capital of Indonesia to another island, like Sumatra, Kalimantan (Borneo) , Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua. Sailing around Indonesian archipelago is a nice experiences if you have a long journey to Indonesia

Perama

by kotitihaere

Perama, based in Bali offer Tourist Shuttle services around Bali and their pricies are very reasonable. As they are promoted alot in guidebooks, we thought they would be expensive, but after checking out the prices from Kuta to Ubud, they were the cheapest, with the best facilites and great staff that are helpful. Pop into their office and pick upp a brochure, then go back the next day with their brochure and book - you will get a discount. They also offer a dropoff service which, if you are staying in Seminyak and there are 2+ of you, it is cheaper than going by taxi. They can also book you tickets through to Java and you can also get their shuttle to Denpasar where the buses leave, but what they do not tell you is that they will not take you all the way to your bus - you have to go through the checkpoint where you may be asked to pay and then run the gauntlet of touts.

Trains and Boats and Planes

by abzolutme

In orde to safe time we've decided to fly to Lombok instead. You can take the ferry boat from Padang Bai only if you time to kill. Some tour operator offer transfer from hotel in Bali and fly to Lombok and airport pick up and boat transfer for mere Rp 800K!We paid ours in total Rp 400k return boat trip for two transfer Senggigi (teluk nara) to G.Trawangan.A taxi ride from Sheraton costed us approx Rp 50K. It's worth the ride with nice views of the coast white sandy beaches and tall coconut trees. However if yu decide to Travel to Lombok form Bali I would advice you to book domestic flight in advance. to safe you from hassle of calling travel agent or Merpati directly. Or drop by at one of the travel agent outside hotel. We had our hotel reception in Bali did it for us. And they charged us Rp20K extra. They said it was for Merpati's dispatch course. Bull ! Please remeber these ticket do not...

Ferry from Sumba to Timor

by jungles

If you take the ferry from Waingapu on Sumba to Kupang on Timor, be aware that this ferry crossing takes 32 hours! We were told by multiple people that it was 22 hours, and this was said in Bahasa Indonesia so the issue was not a language problem. It left at about 10pm, so we thought we would be spending one night on the ferry and arrive at 8pm the following night. Instead, we had to spend two nights on the ferry and did not arrive until 6am two days later. There were no beds on this ferry, so we spent two nights sleeping on vinyls seats in a common room with a hundred or so other people, with Indonesian karaoke blaring from the TV all the while. I probably could have dealth with this better if I had known about it from the beginning, but it was the psychological factor of expecting to arrive and then finding out we had a whole other night ahead of us that really did me in. Plus, we had...

Economy Class Trains

by jungles

I'd advise against getting an economy class train out of Jakarta, unless you really want to punish yourself. We spent four hours on one and it was one of the most uncomfortable train journeys I've experienced, apart from unreserved class in India. The whole train was mega-overcrowded and stifling hot, and it was much worse for Nick as he couldn't get a seat for the first hour or so. That would have been OK except that there were probably 20 sellers in the carriage at any given time, pushing past him every 10 seconds in the tiny aisle selling anything from the useful (cold drinks, fruit) to the useless (windchimes, power glue, camera batteries etc). It was an experience to remember, I suppose, but not one I hope to repeat anytime soon...

Becak

by marimar_72

To use the Taxi is the best in going inside jakarta, tour buses are good for sightseeing, but to use the Becak (pronounced betchak) is total new experience.it`s a bicycle with a seat that fits small 2 people.pushed by a person from behind by cycling,it`s efficient going in the smaller streets of cities and villages.Imagine the little basket that it`s placed on ladies bicycles....it`s the same idea only a carrige instead of the basket ;-)And it`s one of the cheapest ways to go around.
