Eksekutif class from Jakarta to Jogja

by BikkleYunker

(I HATE my laptop mouse)...the shortened version of my train trip:For between 20 and 25 bucks, I took an overnight train from Gambir stesen in Jakarta to Jogja. surprisingly a meal was served, but unsurprisingly, the bread contained Durian. MY ENEMY THE DURIAN. I was reassured by the front desk who booked the ticket for me that the train would have a working air conditioner and a working water closet. well the a/c worked for about 20 minutes so I guess..that's ok...the bathroom, well I can't complain, it wasn't a squatter. but maybe I should look on the bright side? instead of taking the assumed 6.5 hours, the train ride took just 10 hours to complete the journey, including an hour+ stop in the middle of somewhere, with random, destitute villagers coming up to the broken doors of the train (held together at times by rusty screws) and trying to sell me dried randomness. oh right...the...

How to get there

by Dreshman

But now let me tell you the Story ; The " how to get there" , the costs and so on.The fastest and most convenient way to get to Komodo is by Plane. From Denpasar Bali you must get to Labuan Bajo , the capital City of Island Flores. Only the Airline Merpati operates there. And the Price for such an One Way Ticket was around 70 Euros. Just after the Arrival in Labuan Bajo Airport a Man spoke to me and offered me to ornanize the Trip to Komodo . After a short while me and other Tourists got into a small Bus and we were brought to the Harbour of Labuan Bajo. We went to an Office and they have shown me the Offers and different Options and its Prices. I have chosen for one Day Rinca and 2 other Days Komodo. And as i was alone it became not very cheap for me. The Boat Fare alone was about 1 500 000 Indonesian Rupia altogether (about 130 Euro). So far so good. I got into the Boat and we rode to...

Blue Bird

by Mair_Nasser

It is better to get into the Blue Bird cab as it is a meter cab so there is not messing around with the price. The only sad thing is it is only in Jakarta. The fare is resonable and the drivers are friendly and helpful

taxi around batam

by ombre

I always find taxi cabs in any country a experience they either set out to exploit you or explain what is wrong with the world .getting ripped off in batam is not a issue due to the exchange rates you can hire a cab all day for around 30 dollars U.S so even if they do take you in the wrong direction who cares.what i found amusing was the attempts to get westerners to take cab rather than bus.when a group from our Hotel told some guy we were traveling in group and did not want to seperate he scrated his head and in no time at all had organized a mini bus all be it in very poor shape .I must say on the one non hotel taxi trip i took in car that would never pass a road worthy I was worried if were would get taken some where and maybe mugged like is often the case in places such as mexico city .not sure if it was because there were 3 guys in the cab or to the drivers credit he was just a...

Sit in the BACK of the Bus !!!

by daddygila

Traveling by bus in Indonesia is NOT for the faint hearted. The trips are LONG, the roads are perilous, the seats cramped and the windows dirty. Unless you want to have a premature heartattack sit in the BACK of the bus or else you are in for one fright after another. The basic rule of the road is this....The BIGGEST vehicle has the RIGHT of WAY. If you are NOT in the Biggest vehicle WATCH OUT !!!To see some of these lumbering mechanical behemoths race through a village as people fled for their lives was to marvel why their were't more deaths on the road.I counted many many "accidents" and the demolished cars were not pretty to look at.After most trips I wanted to get out and kiss the ground.

Local transport - cheap and adventurous

by Glorija

If you don`t wanna spend to much for transport and if you are communicative, then you must try local public buses. They are funny, they offer wild driving, they can be hot and noisy but still ... certainly you come on the spot where you want to.And local people are far from boring. Try it!

Below is one of tips that i replied in forum.Singapore -> Batam by ferry (1 hour, SGD 20)Singapore -> Bintan by ferry (2 hours, SGD 20)Batam -> Bintan by ferry (1 hour, Rp. 30,000)Batam -> Jakarta by ship (25 hours, ) or by plane (1 and a half hour)Bintan -> Jakarta by ship (25 hours) , no airport in BintanI think it will be better for you to take plane cause you will waste your time in boat. There are many cheap and competitive price for dosmetic flight. Try Bouraq Airlines or Mandala Airlines.I got one way ticket from Batam to Jakarta for Rp.400.000 (about USD47) in last December (2003).You can get cheaper ticket in low season.Anyway you can go to Jakarta by boat for Rp.200,000 (economy class)Jakarta -> Yogyakarta, you can take bus / train (8 hours, Rp 150,000) /plane (1 hour, Rp. 350,000)Yogyakarta -> Bali, bus (+boat) or plane (1 hour, Rp. 350,000)If you are not...

Pelni Passenger Ships

by Mark75

Going around Indonesia by Pelni passenger ships is a great experience.Although trips can be long (and can therefore become boring), spending time navigating through the numerous islands and arriving in new ports are amazing sights.Do bring a few good books or games along!
