Pickpockets and prostitutes...

by Pierre_Rouss

Pickpockets and prostitutes goes hand in hand.In Kuta on Bali, walking back to my hotel in the evening, I was accosted by 2 lovely ladies. According to them, I was quite a catch. You should have seen those smooth operators, 2 kittens purring all over me, until I feel a hand in my pocket. It was easy to just grasp the fabric from the outside to make the pocket opening too small for a hand. I managed to say 'No, No' while waving my finger in disapproval and smile to get them to pull away smiling and giggling about having been caught red handed, lifting their shoulders meaning 'well, you can't blame us for trying'.Indeed, nice try, better luck next time.

Changing Winds?

by lmkluque

It is with great saddness that I have to suggest that you check with your government before booking a trip to Indonesia. There have been some political problems and since the terrorist attacks in the USA, on 11 September 2001, many riots have taken place. Photo: Truck full of soldiers.

Sea Urchins

by xaver

Be carefull when you snorkle near coral reefs, those nice black spiny things you see in the photo, the sea urchins, are very dangerous, if you step on them, the thorn will go deep inside ur skin and it will make your swim painful.

Haf medicine readily for diarrhoea. Was down with symptoms of food poisoning for a couple of days!! Unfortunately, medical supplies for stomach upset were not readily available at the stores. Had to endure till the end of the trip. Sped off to the pharmacy the minute I touched down @ Changi Airport. Got betta in a couple of days. I'm still figuring what contaminated food I ate to result in such suffering (whatmore on a hol)! :(

When doing a trip through Komodo island you might be lucky and see a Komodo Dragon. Those Dragons grow up to 3m. They can also jump 3m and they have poison spit. So don't let them bite you!

by sandravdp

Tabwater isn't always reliable here. Watch out when you go surfing. Near the reef it is a dangerous to go surfing especially when the water is low. A traveller I met has torn his face open for a part, because he fell of his board and landed on the reef with his face...

Sumatra and especially Lake Toba. There is alot of accosstting to the buying of drugs. You will also be asked where are you from, how old, and if you are married between 20-infinite amount of times a day.

Corruption

by xaver

Corruption is a real problem in Indonesia yet, as previosly said, this is a very young and poor country so, still not so organised and controlled.Corruption is spread at any level of burocracy.I had my experience on my way back to Italy when, at the airport, the pasport controller asked me CLEARLY for money in order to not make me waste my time with deeper controls.Ofcourse I could have said no as I really had nothing to hide but, I had nothing to hide for my laws, I could not really know if something in my lagguage or else could be an excuse for him to really make me waste sometime, so I just gave him some of the few ruphias left and he thanked with a big smile.

by superjonty

As I have said, Peken Baru is not the most pleasant palce to begin your Indonesian experience. It appears that there are alot of people out to rip off the tourists in this city. We heard this from several travellers, and had our own experiences as well, and began to think that we were the only ones who were never robbed!

Balinese drivers have major...

by MilsVanils

Balinese drivers have major roadrage ! The cops are also very corrupt and are known for giving undeserved tickets to naive tourists. I recommend taking a taxi and NOT renting a car. Traffic is also very unusual, and driving is done on the left side of the road. When visiting heavily wooded areas, watch out for mosquitos and biting ants ( i had a very horrendous experience with this ).
