    Bumbu Desa: Another Local treat

    by lukluk_wal_marjan Updated Sep 11, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Entrance to Bumbu Desa....

This restaurant serves another Local Indonesian cooking called SUNDA.

Before scouting for your seats, you need to select your dish to be eaten with the white rice. They got fish, prawns, chicken, squids....the list is endless and the one that I love most was lots and lots and lots of raw vegetables called ULAM .

Some dishes are freshly cooked just after you placed your order.

Surrounding is beautiful & good for meeting with friends. Bringing your kids should not be an issue since there is a playground for them. And its located within 'RUMAH MODE' Factory Outlets area.

    Ample parking spaces provided.

    Favorite Dish:

Freshly fried chicken, freshly fried squids with plenty of the fresh 'ULAM'

Sapu Lidi: Having a feast in the paddy field

    One of the saung
    3 more images

I guess this is amongst the most visited restaurant by the tourist as well as the local included.

During my 2nd trip to Bandung together with my mom & hubby, we finally managed to squeeze into the itinerary to have our lunch here. And wala...we spent our time there for about 3 hours; most of the time taking pictures & enjoying the scenery.

Really love the place. The food was great & served by pretty petite Indonesian ladies, the surrounding beautiful & the weather was good as well.

We chose to have our lunch in one of the open gazebo (saung as its called here) near the paddy field instead of inside the restaurant itself. Afterall, u travelled to experience something different!. Some saung are built just by the lake within the area. Take off your shoes as you climb up onto the saung. The saung comes in different sizes that will suit you & your partner or the whole big party - well to a certain limit of course! The small saung can comfortably fit in 2 to 4 people.

There is a Japanese-like table where people will sit on the provided floor cushions. As you ready to order, you only need to use the traditional PA system called kentongan. I can only compare it to what we normally watched in movies where the lady/lord of the house ring the bell just to call the servant to the dining table!

Major parts of the restaurant compound are planted with paddy but it is only for decoration. No rice is harvested from them. Sounds like a waste but at least we as the people from new generation can at least gain this invaluable experience of having our meals surrounded by the greenery of the paddy fields.

Do spend the time to venture around. We tremendously enjoyed ourself just by having our lunch here & enjoying the scenery afterwards. Here, curiousity will benefit you of bumping into the beutiful scenery of the resorts that are built near the man-made lake!

Check ot the pictures to see them for yourself.

    Note: Pic 1, 2 & 3 courtesy of my hubby - Haris -

Favorite Dish: There are variety of dishes in the menu. But it is recommended to tried the local Sundanese food serves here.

We enjoyed the grilled chicken very much. Dont forget to have the local raw salad known as lalapan to balance your food intake. Give the fried brinjal with chilie paste a try as well.

The oxtail soup as known locally as sup buntut comes highly recommended.

As for drinks, me & mom really enjoy our glass of Avocado juice!

Simpang Raya Restaurant: A 'Field' Food????

    by lukluk_wal_marjan Updated Sep 11, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

MASAKAN PADANG or directly translated as FIELD COOKING is one type of cooking that visitors to Bandung or Indonesia as a whole should not miss.

In Bandung, Simpang Raya Restaurant at Jalan Asia Afrika is amongst the well known restaurant that serve Padang dishes.

Food? Ambience? Surroundings? Services? Summing all up, I would say EXCELLENT!

As you enter the restaurant, once seated, the waiter will start serving u with all kinds of PADANG dishes without u have to order anything.

    DO NOT PANIC!

You will be charged on whatever u eat only. Each plates served normally comes with either 2 pieces of chicken, 4 slices of beef, 2 pieces of prawns etc. The price of each plate ranges between Rp7,500 - Rp25,000 (USD1 - USD3). All servings include a plate of vegetables - you can ask for more -, pot of rice & a glass of tea each.

    Favorite Dish:

'Ayam Pop' = Pop Chicken : I tried to ask for the recipe but the waiter replied 'SECRET'!

I guess thats why the signage also shows 'Istana Ayam Pop' which translates to Pop Chicken Palace

Dont forget the fresh Avocado juice.

Kampung Daun Culture Gallery & Cafe: A romantic dining experience

A nite view of Kampung Daun

The restaurant is wide spread, providing guests with private dining experience as they are assigned individual huts located about 5 meters away from others. The huts can be located anywhere from the top of the hill, hillside, by the stream or even by the waterfall. It has a romantic ambience, particularly after the sun sets. Food is tasty, well presented and reasonably priced. Service is excellent and the waiters attend to you to within minutes. To be able to enjoy the view, be there early, perhaps around 4pm. For safety reason, do return to Bandung city early as the road is dark and in poor condition.
