In the center of Bandung, Palasari Traditional Book Market is a nice place to visit, specially if you like read books. tens Thousand of books availabel here, and many people said that this place is the complette book store in Indonesia.
This place just look like another traditional markets, but specially for books. You can buy any kind of new books with discount, mostly from Indonesian publishers but some of them also sale books from international publishers. Beside new books, you can buy used book here.
Of course this place so famous for the people in Bandung, as you know Bandung the city for studying in Indonesia, and knowing well as education city.

This is an Elephant Cultural Village translated in English but there is no real elephants here except for people dressed up like Elephants walking around here taking pics with the kids and so on. It`s a very nice place to take your family to especially the kids. There is alot to do here. Lots of rides for the kids that they will enjoy. You can take a ride with a horse and carriage or rent a buggy or even go karting which is really fun. One thing that I must say is that it`s not cheap here but garanteed to be alot of fun for your family.

The Bosscha Observatory is a Landmark worth to visit it and it is easy to reach in direction Lembang, not so far of Bandung-
Try to come at a saturday - see more in the special Bosscha Astronomy site at my VT side.
Here at the Photo a special view of the bottom of the honourable Carl-Zeiss-Jena-Doppelrefraktor working sice the foundation of the Observatory in the end of twenties last century still until today.
On the second photo you can see the type plate at the mount of the old great "Bamberg Refraktor", the mount was manufactured so around 1920 by the "Askania Werke" Berlin Friedenau!
See also the ITB Bandung, the Astronomical Department the Jurusan Astronomi.
This year 2011 is special, cause of "60 Years Astronomy" in Indonesia! See Bosscha Internetside.
For more information, look at my VT-Travellog "Bandung travelling north to Bosscha Observatory"
So if you of special astronomic interest -
or simple want to be a little nearer to the so much shining stars and the milky way of south hemisphere,
so don`t hesitate to follow the way to the "BOSSCHA".

Usually a traveltime is to short to see all-
so mostly I look in the bookstores fore some interesting to take home.
So in Bandung too...
In 2007 a friend recommended: "Jendela Bandung" written vom HerSuganda.
Real nice book- but in Bahasa Indonesia!
But looking inside- and the reviews show it-
the "Jendela Bandung" gives a good impression about "Bandoeng" in the past,
and the variety of town and area Bandung today in Indonesia...
See at photo the front page of "Jendela Bandung" the new highway bridge in Bandung city.

North part of Bandung has nice places- ,
here in the little park, the building complex of old holland times- ("dari waktu belanda"):
The house of mayor of Bandung "Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Kota Bandung",
the residence of the "Pemerintah Kotamaya tingkat Bandung"
I have got there a little souvenir with Kota Bandung Heraldic figure:
The Tangkuperahu volcano, a town wall over blue white waves of river mountains,
under the heraldic motto: "GEMAH RIPAH WIBAWAH MUKTI"
The park around is a nice shadow place under the big trees and is free open at day for all.
By the way- long names seems even in Indonesia to long for daily use-
the town bus station for the"Angkotas" is simple named "City Hall"!

Im sorry, but there's Pasar Baru in Bandung.
And honestly, if you ask locak people, every one would know about it.
It's just like you ask liberty statue to the people of usa. :D
If you stay near pasar baru, you'll expect
- crowd of local people, it's better to take a walk
- very traditional environment, people trade, selling good,
- cheap prices, especially if you're looking for quantities than qualitiea
- the culinary is also traditional. lots of them are Sundanese, local tribe's. There's fried chicken in the Sundanese restaurant in case youre not ready for the other taste.
- of course there's KFC, McDonalds around.
If you stay near Riau/Dago, you'll expect
- mixed crowd of local and foreign people, it's ok if you take a walk or by car
- more modern environment, most of them are Factory outlet, Coffeeshop, lounge, beerhouse, family restaurant, if you head towards jalan Dipatiukur you'll find more traditional foods on tents.
- mid ranging prices, you'll find quality here
- at weekend, a lot of creativity activities happening in bandung, Sat Eve, a lot of exhibition happening at Jalan Dago, at Sunday there's car free day. People are exticing about it. Near there is weekly shocking market. Many handmade goods, cheap clothes, traditional foods even more.
Interesting place?
Two of them already mentioned.
Another is Cloud9, apparently it's owned by foreign, so you'll meet another tourist there, so you can exchange testimonial about interesting places.
If you love nature, there's a cave of Tangkuban Perahu.
Or you can swim at Cipaku (hot water source) or Ciater (it's a bit far, but people from Bandung are thinking Ciater is OK for road trip by car/motorcyle in one day).
If you need help just drop me a message.

The Asian-African Conference which was held on 18th to 24th April 1955 in Bandung gained a big success both in formulating common concerns and in preparing operational guidance for cooperation among Asian African Nation as well as in creating world order and world peace. The success of the conference was not only for the time being but also for the time after so that the soul and spirit of the Asian-African Conference becomes one of the most important factor that deciding world history.
In order to maintain those mentions above, it is important if the Asian-African Conference with its event is maintained eternally in a museum where the conference was held, Gedung Merdeka, Bandung, a city that is considered as a capital city and a source of inspiration for the Asian-African Nations.

Kota Bandung di dekat Gunung Tangkubanperahu!
The first special to see in Bandung -
is the near to the Vulcanos around in the Preanger Mountains at first the Tangkubanperahu.
There are much storys around and the best is to use good weather to see more. Real it is not very usful to take a tour in raintime- if heavy rain it can be a problem-
Hati hati Hujan keras- hard rain is dangerous! At the day of photo it was good weather in Bandung- but full in the clouds at the Caldera.
But never walk without care, and better use a trustable guide. Be shure, ever is the wild nature around us- and near Tangkubanperahu its very wild and very near. Shure my comment NEVER try to get inside the vulcano needs no explanation for a traveller-the sulfur gases are one - at right wind you will get a soar throat at evening.
The other and real dangerous is the never predictable unseen eruption or migration of deadly free Carbon Dioxide in the inner deeper crater walls.

Usually it is good to have a little distance to the volcanoes, and usually nearby is nothing maybe a geological station - but near Bandung at "Tankubanperahu" is other.
The northeast site of the caldera is full of souvenir stores,
and much people are there - cause you can drive until the top with cars, so it is easy for tourist to come here. See the photo.
You will find - a full "drive in Vulkano"- with now hundreds of small and greater stores and restaurants - you will see much souvenir sellers- everyone will be very lucky to interest special You for the so much offers- from mountain flowers to special stones an minerals, sulphure powder good for cure all kind of deseases until warm colourful wool caps and - of course - "Anklungs" too.
But I recommend to use a trustable guide. Be shure, ever is the wild nature around us- and near Tangkubanperahu its very wild and very near. Shure my comment NEVER try to get inside the vulcano needs no explanation for a traveller-the sulfur gases are one - at right wind you will get a soar throat at evening.

Bandung as a former Dutch colonial city is a very interesting site to see various kinds of houses and buildings with its Dutch style colonial architecture, so many buildings and houses still keep their uniqueness to go backwards to an ancient history of Bandung downtown as a heritage worth a visit. Cipaganti streets is very popular street to memorize this fascinating European style architecture
