    Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park

by meiyergani Written Apr 7, 2015

Favorite thing: The name Gede Pangrango is actually composed of the names of two twin volcanoes, Mount Gede (2,958 m) and Mount Pangrango (3019 m), which are located about 100 km south of Jakarta. The area comprising the two volcanoes was declared as National Park by Agriculture Minister on March 6, 1980 and became one of the first five national parks in Indonesia.

Fondest memory: This national park is formed by sub-alpine natural forest which is rich in biodiversity. Besides sub-alpine ecosystem, it also represents a distinct diversity of ecosystems: a montane ecosystem, a sub-montane ecosystem, a marshland ecosystem, a lake ecosystem and a savanna ecosystem. The sub-alpine ecosystem is characterized by grassy meadows of Isachne pangerangensis, edelweiss flower (Anaphalis javanica), sentigi (Vaccinium varingiaefolium) and violet (Viola pilosa). Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park is also a refuge of endangered species such as Javan Gibbon (Hylobates moloch), panther (Panthera pardus), Asian wild dog (Cuon alpinus javanicus) and Red Frog.

    Botanical Garden and President Palace

by meiyergani Written Mar 31, 2008

Favorite thing: The better way to Cipanas is from Jakarta. The distance from Jakarta to Bogor is 60 km and from Bogor to Cipanas is about 40 km. Generally you can drive to Cipanas directly from Jakarta via Highway, avoid Saturday, Sunday or National Holiday by the traffic will be heavily crowded ( there is also a beautiful President Palace at Cipanas).
Please Don't miss to visit Bogor Botanical Garden (the home of +/- 14,000 plants species) and Bogor President Palace (built by Thomass Stamford Raffless in 18 Century)you should recognize that there are so many factory outlet(dress , shoes, t shirts, bags etc) at Bogor down town not far from Bogor Botanical Garden. Have a nice travel and enjoy your stay in Bogor

  • Rainy City

by radtanu Updated Aug 2, 2007

Favorite thing: It is a rainy city. In rainy season, you better be ready with umbrella and rain coat. Since Indonesia is tropical country so the weather is fine but of course wet when it is in rainy season.

Food are same but the famous and favoriteone is called Asinan Bogor. It is vegetables or fruits mixed with vinegar and ordinary chili. Some people made it with small chili - very pungent and spicy one. Gosh, sour and spicy but very fresh. Good for someone with cold...he2.

    The deer.

by belgianchocolate Written Nov 26, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The Presidential Summer Palace,
Istana Bogor, is located on the northwest side
of the Botanical Gardens. We saw it from the
street and from the botanical gardens behind
the tree with the giant bats.

Round the palace you can still find about 300
white-spotted deer. How did they end up here?
During the Dutch colonial period they used to
serve as food for the dutch rulers.
These days I think they just have to look good.

We could not resist feeding them from within
the botanical garden. They are quit gentle animals.

    Chinese New year....

by belgianchocolate Updated Nov 26, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Favorite thing:
When we left the botanical garden we were
attracted by noise. A lot of noise. We went a
little closer and before we knew it we were
dragged in. From ou former journey we knew
that chinese temples are very inviting and
not offended by visitors. Au contrary.

Since it never hurts to ask any God for
whatever wish we bought ourselves some
incense sticks and things to offer. And we
imitated the others , but still did it all wrong.
Well , a very friendly man guided us around ,
explained us why this and why that and how
    to do it right.

And suddenly he dissapeared. We hadn't even
had the chance to thank him. We had a
fantastic time. Especially me...I had Frederik
doing all the work and I took pictures. :-)

I wonder if his wishes came true?
    I bet they did.

  • Friendly people, red roofed houses & a volcano.

by Aang Written Feb 25, 2003

Favorite thing: Walk! Get away from the streets with traffic. Explore the kampungs (poorer housing areas).

Fondest memory: "Hey mister, come into my house."
The house is simple and sunny. The family is friendly. And when you move on, someone else will say, "Hey mister, like to visit the mosque, or the mall, or the mountain?"

    Poor but friendly.

    Hilly, greenary, rainy

by ukirsari Written Feb 25, 2003

Favorite thing: Speaking about Bogor means opening an old history. Since this city is designated for a vacation place by the Dutch, beside Bandung. No wonder that Sir Stamford Raffles gave an order to build a botanic garden here. Also former President Soekarno built his Summer Palace at Bogor. Later on, Indonesia Government open a Safari Park nearby Bogor. So fresh in our lungs and it's become a destination for rafting lovers too.

Fondest memory: Old building are everywhere in the city. Like my impression about Bandung, walking around Bogor in rainy days make me feel this city is out of Indonesia. Just like a small town in somewhere at Europe.
