Mimosa
  • Tip Rating:

  • We know a plant in belgium that is called
'venus vliegenval'. The plant got little
traps with sensitive hairs. When a fly sits
in one of the traps , they close and the fly
gets dissolved and is used for extra fertilization.

On Java and Kalimantan they got this plant.
When you touch her she folds all her
    leaves. A moving plant. Surprizing.

    Jus alpukat
  • Tip Rating:

  • We were sitting in this nice restaurant ,
    very simple with fresh seafood.
I just got a bit tired of the local Iced tea and
we decided it was time to go for something new.

My buddy was going to take care of that.
He went in the back to choose something and..

He was convinced that it had to be
    'JUS ALPUKAT'.

What is that , jus alpukat , frederik? I asked.
He said that the young guy in the back had
pointed to an orange. A green local orange..
Okay , that did sound appealing , refreshing

Well I can tell you that jus alpukat is an
avocado juice and they add chocolate sauce.
    Hmmm , like it or don't , I'm not a big fan.

    Gekko gets dinner.
  • Tip Rating:
  • You see them everywhere in Indonesia.
They are quit harmless and there are a lot of different
species. I think they are beautiful.

The special thing is they have these fingers which
makes it possible for them to walk on walls
    and windows.

This little fellow just has caught lunch.
A night fly... they are quit useful.

So please don't chase them , don't fear them.

(and don't eat them , if you go padang - see
on my Jakarta page , restaurant tip)lol

    The snake-story.
  • Tip Rating:

  • Ok , I must be honest , I'm dying to tell the
    snake-story. I know I made better pictures before ,
but it's all about the story.

There is this national parc at the end of the peninsula.
A parth of it is public and after you'll pay a little amount
of money your allowed in. But the tourist office
also organiazes little trekkings to see some
more of the natural beauty of the place..
So , one of the guides came up to us and was
showing us some pictures of the local fauna and flora.
There is this waterfall at the other side of
    the island ,
some monekys we didn't saw before ,
    porcupines...and snakes.

Well I was interested to see all that untill he named his
price. That was ridiculous. Pffft I didn't even bother
bargaining. ' I WILL FIND THE SNAKE MYSELF' I said.

So me and poor Free went on our way in the first part
of the forest. Here there are nice lanes , the
deer and the javanese macaques welcome you...
Second part is the forbidden forest. ;-)
That is what I wanted to see. It had rained a bit
and climbing up the slibbery hill was quit trying.
But we got up. Walking became easier ,
even if the vegetation was quit dense.

Now Frederik started to ask questions...
'Do you still know to find your way back?'
    -Of course I do-
'There are no paths here , do you think a lot of people
    come here Frank?'
-No , Frederik , we are fearless adventurers.-
'Frank , what are you going to do when you see a snake?'

Well , I know this sounds unreal , but while Free
was asking the question , I SAW A SNAKE.

-I'm going to make a picture of it and you can hold her.-

And I did make the picture. lol.
    (while Frederik was saying ,
not too close , don't do this , look out. lol)

Snake gone , we walked on...couple of minutes later.
Suddenly I heard an gruesomely yell
'aaaaah , I got bitten by a snake...'
When I looked back I saw Frederik with a little
thorny twig hanging on his pants. hihi.
Fear in his eyes. Ok , it is time to ga back.
Not all of us are that fearless I guess.

    Sail And Dream Away

We went for the rather small boat ride from Kalipucang to Cilacap. WOW, this is one of the highlights of a trip, leaving Pangandaran in a superb way. Try to get the ferry as early as possible (07.30, 08.30, 10.30 o'clock), and say goodbye to Pangandaran by bemo, by colt or by bus (the minibus terminal in Kalipucang is only 200 m from the ferry so you don't need a becak). The trip takes roughly 4 hours to Cilacap, across the lagoons of Segara Anakan (a stretch of inland sea by the ling island of Nusakambangan to the South), via Klaces, Mutean, Candi. Prepare your film- and photo-equipment, 'cause the opportunities will be excellent!

    Segara Anakan

Hear the constant calls of the marabou storks, when passing the mangrove swamps. This incredible Disneyland-jungle shows stilted villages, men fishing out of dugout canoes, clusters of small thatched houses on the water's edge, perched high on stilts of the mud banks, very friendly people walking over the green swamp ground, ...

To me this is really the most easy-going trip you can make in Java, and made me feel like an aeon away from any of the hassles that Indonesian buses and trains can turn up! Sailing across the inland sea (Segara Anakan) of the Indian Ocean (to whom I fell in love with) turned my Pangandaran memories onto cherished memo's. There is the chance to return at Cilacap, where the boat depart at latest at 1 pm ...
    Thanks Pangandaran

    Snack To Dream About

Isn't this a lovely offer? A mix of food-snacks on a pisang-leaf of satay (meat), onde-onde (sweet peanut round balls), rempeje (fried peanut chips), getas (fried candied coconut cookies), ketella (fried sweet potatoes) and more ...

It is not one big snack though, you can buy one by one. Locals prepare these early in the morning and try to sell their snacks anywhere. Even on cross-roads, bus-stations, near shops and, on the road where-ever ... I LOVE these little snacks, so used to it when home and with family. Also at Pangandaran, thanks people over there!

    Fly Away And Dream Ahead
The small peninsula of Pangandaran is indeed a good place to unwind. It lies more or less halfway between Bandung and Yogykarta or Dieng. Most tourist choose for a direct travel to Yogyakarta, removing from main international gateway Jakarta. When travelling by the super deluxe night Bima Express (via Yogyakarta) or the Mutiara Utara (via Semarang) to the East of Java you'll never notice anything of Pangandaran ...

Though flying internationally as well domesticly from Sukarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, you'll be able to see the peninsula of Pangandaran. Whenever you've been to Pangandaran the view is memory-breathing ... you'll enjoy it as I did! Thanks Peninsula of Pangandaran...
