Favorite thing: Whenever visiting the Samudra Beach Hotel, Pelabuhan Ratu - West-Java, you should enter the special hotel-room 308! Here the tellings are still told by insiders for so long time. The original surroundings of the mythical Javanese Ratu Kidul has to derive from the very old days. You don't have to be superstitious to feel some strong, and strange, energies blowing within these spheres.

A lot of people come here for their "problems", for a pray, a meditation, and maybe also very curious about all of the strange things happening in this peculiar room. Locals love to tell these stories (cerita dongeng) when you're really interested. They don't want to make fools of themselves and once interested a lot of stories come up and you can listening to these ...

Fondest memory: Entering this "bewithced" Room 308 you'll get shocked by the overwhelming smell of incense, and by the smell of the flowers Sedep Malam & Melati (Tuberosa & Jasmine). The cute garnished bed with the colour of green, like the "guling" (French pillow), the boudoir with beauty things like powder, lipstick, a comb, a mirror etc. all is so fairy-like. Some articles disappear, or just move away with cleaning, collected by the Spiritqueen,... is told ... You do have questions? And speak a little Bahasa Indonesia? Ask Pak Acil, the juru kunci, doorkeeper (see pic, he's sitting in the right corner), ... He'll get "in touch" with the world of spirits,... and their beautiful Queen. So you can imagine my dearest rindu/memory of Pelabuhan Ratu... thanks for listening.

Favorite thing: In 1989 the Indonesian sport Satria Nusantara started in Delft, The Netherlands. It has now grown to a club with four branches in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Zoetermeer. I started several years ago and joined the SN group in The Hague. That is for for my back which weakened because of my job as make-up artist. When summer we practise SN at the Zuiderstrand, The Hagues Southerly beach region (see pic) ...

Fondest memory: The Southery beach area in front of the Samudra Beach Hotel, Pelabuhab Ratu, is also used for Satria Nusantara. One early Sunday morning I saw some SN members walking on the beach. To my astonishment this group grew until over 300 members. And started to warm up for the SN lessons. I ran downstairs ...

Favorite thing: When visit the 15 km stretching Southerly coastline of West-Java you'll watch the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean supported by thick tropical wood forests. Enjoy some breathtaking views from Pelabuhan Ratu to Cisolok and see how smashing waves are thrown on black, rocky beaches with some golden sand parts. This is Queen's Port (Pelabuhan Ratu), most gorgeous coastal town on the South coast of Java.

Fondest memory: This is where the Jakartans and Bandung-people go & spend their holidays. To enjoy their walks looking down on the horseshoe shape of the former Wijnkoopsbaai (so named by the Duch), where hundreds of fisherman's boatlamps can be seen under the sky filled with millions of stars above. This place I will always enjoy includes the Indian Ocean, the Samudra Beach Hotel, its people ...
and Pelabuhan Ratu
thanks Jawa Kidul!

Samudra Beach Hotel - Pak Acil

reception-samudrahotel-java

Favorite thing: For now you know a bit more about this beach resort with a Lady Ghost. The legendary Nyai Loro Kidul (Princess of the South Sea) had been flung down deep into the blue waves below and, effort restored her beauty to grab the men running )swimming!) of bad luck. The Nyai Loro Kidul legend runs deep in Pelabuhan Ratu, where the rough surf and strong undertow have claimed many unwary victims ...

Fondest memory: Mr. Peter Jansen wrote about the Indian Ocean: "We always tell our guests to watch the waves," he said. "If you watch the waves, I think nothing can happen, but if you turn your back on them, anything can happen."

If you plan to visit this remarkable hotel, please ask if Pak Acil is around. He is a "orang cebol" (dwarf, see the shadow-photograph) who is the door-keeper of Room 308. Try to get an interpreter and hear some unbelievable stories. For some reason I feel home here, even getting sometimes the creeps at deepest night ...

Karang Aji beach at Pelabuhan Ratu is the best beach around. It's a secluded beach with perfect waves and spectacular view. It's where the ocean meets with the green rice field! I love this place!
